Looking for Great Texas Family Vacation Spots

My husband and I are looking for a place that we can take our 2 year old this summer and all of us have a lot of fun. I am currently 3 months pregnanct so amusment parks wouldn't work for us as I could not ride anything and my son would probably be too small for most rides. We normally take a trip to the coast each year with my dh's family but we are not sure they will be able to make it this year. We can't see how we could set up the appropriate sun protection tents we have all by ourselves, it just seems too intimidating, although we love the sand and water! One last thing, we would like to stay in the state of TX but may be willing to venture out, if the idea is just right! What can a family of three with one of the way do for fun?

What can I do next?

I'm new to SA (from the midwest), so I'm a little uneducated. Why do you need sun protection tents at the beach? I have a 3year old and have always just used 50sunblock every hour or so and sun protection clothing/hats. Is that not enough?
We took our three year old tubing. She is huge though (most people guess she is 4 or 5) and we have a life jacket on her and she rides on dad's lap, but she loves that. We run the horseshoe twice and that is just about the length of her attention span. There are some good camping ares around there also.
We love Sea World. There aren't many rides, but the lines are short enought that Dh and DS could go while you wait- though he might be too short for some of them. There are also several sand boxes to play in. The water park has a great kiddy area too.
My daughter loves the River Walk. She especially enjoys the gardens and the ducks. She always finds new bugs and creatures and we get to enjoy the scenery.
Canyon Lake has boats to rent and primitive cabins also. There are also tent camping spots that are great. We love Canyon Lake.
Port Aransas has a great little B&B. We haven't made it there yet, but it sure looks like fun. I have heard great reviews They have a coastal blend package that includes dinner and tickets to several attractions. I can't wait to try this out. Here is the website.

Hyatt has a wonderful resort in San Antonio (not the hotels- a resort) also with a lazy river and all kinds of things to do. Again, we have not yet visited, but we are owners in Key West and Hyatt is just fantastic and so family friendly!
We have only been in SA since Feb, but we have yet to get bord. I am typing this from Indiana while visiting family and I have forgotten how spoiled we are down south. There is nothing to do here.

This Saturday is the Day of the American Cowboy. Arts and Crafts around the Court House, Food, LOTS of things around the Meuseum behind the Court House.
From San Antonio, take Hwy 16 north to Bandera about 45 minutes from 1604 and Bandera Road.

There are some great state parks in our area. Incs Lake, Lost Maples...there are hikes and kyaking and plenty of shade. A couple of good websites are Texas Parks and WIldlife and there is one that is texasoutside.com. Check them out. They have some good ideas. Also, consider looking around San Antonio. Tour all the missions, go the the museums. The childrens museum always has things going on. Travel up to Austin and see their sights, the Capital...

Hi there,

My family owns and operates Lake Medina RV Resort on Medina Lake. We have furnished air conditioned cabins, lake access, swimming pool, and children's playground all situated on a historic working cattle ranch in the beautiful Texas Hill Country about 45 mins from San Antonio. There is a ton of wildlife to see including some horses and cows(depending on which pasture they graze in that week!). Check it out online at www.lakemedinarvresort.net We would love to see you there!

Good luck!

Morning J.;

Hey, there are a lot of places that the 3 of you can enjoy!
The problem is that at 2 your little boy isn't really ready
for "adventures"!
Close by with in 150 miles>>>ConCan, Camp Wood, Medina.
ConCan is just north of Sabinal and they have cabins right
on the river and it is beautiful. Camp Wood is a "campout"
place also on the river. Medina is an apple growing area and
good for a day trip.
Big Bend National Park is fantastic place, you have to make
reservations at their camp in advance. You might want to wait on this one till both kids are 5 or 7!
One place we have always enjoyed is South Padre Island at
Port Isabel. The water there is like the Carribean, clear,
and beautiful.
Have Fun!

Try going to South Padre Island near Port Isabel. The beach is very pretty and it's usually very clean. The drive will be about 6hrs but it will be worth it. I highly recommend the drive because it pays off. Try the internate, look it up and you will see that it's a very pretty place.

Good luck,
Elisa
