Hello! I'm not really sure if a skin lightener is what I need. I recently had a bought with bad acne and as a result I have dark spots on my face where the most troublesome acne is gone, but the skin is bruised?? I'm wondering if any of you have a solution to getting rid of this discoloration? Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

Go seek the advice of a reputable dermotologist, do not try any other product without a dermotologist recommending something. You could make it worse if you don't. I think they have all sorts of treatment options and peels for you there, but I would very definitely seek the advice of an expert not just someone recommending a product.

I'm an Avon rep and I got a call yesterday from a customer that ordered Avon Solutions Banishing Cream - Skin Discoloration Improver ($8.50)... the cust is 65 and told me she uses it for age spots, etc. and when I looked online to learn about the product, I saw that lots of people wrote reviews about how well it worked for acne discoloration and they were so pleased with it. Before yesterday, I wouldn't have even known about this product and I don't usually try to plug Avon this way, but if it works for lots of people, then maybe you could give it a try (I've never tried it myself).... you can go to www.youravon.com/esilver if you'd like to check it out - just do a search for "banishing cream" and read the reviews for yourself. If you do decide to order, use coupon code FSANY for free shipping. Good luck!

So I don't recall the name of the item, but Clinque has a product that is green (don't worry it blends into skin) but the idea is to diminish the dark areas. Several years ago I had a severe allergic reaction to a medication and as a result my face broke out in these large hive like welts. When they started to heal I went to Macy's Clinique counter and consulted with their rep she tried this product on me and it helped tremendously. I had originally gone to by a foundation to cover up the large splotches. ask at the counter about the green diffussing lotion.

I am so sorry that you went through that. Contact Genesa. Arbonne's products are amazing. They are botanically based, pure, safe, beneficial. They are results oriented and dermatoligist tested. They also have a 45 day money back guarantee. Good luck.

Hi J.,
I may have a solution for you. What Arbonne's products contain is a skin Brightener, rather than a lightener. The difference? The easiest way to explain it is rather than getting a "Micheal jackson" effect our anti-aging products diminish the darkness undereyes, dark spots & age spots with beneficial ingredients. Whether these dark spots are from hormonal changes, acne, etc. these products encourage turnover of new cells replacing the old damaged cells. For a fresh, healthy, pink glow like what you had when you were younger. Please feel free to contact me for more information. I would be happy to email or call you. Take care, G.

PS. I work closely with a professional aesthetician.

I have known people that have Vitiligo and it starts like that. It seems to start from damage but the pigmintation problem just keeps getting worse and worse. Vitiligo is one of the many forms that something called Familial Mediterranean Fever takes (see Melungeonhealth.org scroll down to FMF) It is most famous for Arthritis symptoms but they sell the "cure" for it in Turkey for example (over the counter there!) for skin problems. Most Drs. will tell you there is nothing that can be done. I found that Pantothenic Acid 3x a day with added balanced B vitimins and exposure to sun caused my husbands to start to fill back in. That was before we knew about the genetic FMF in our family and the "miracle" of simple, safe, effective, ($8.00 at WM) Colchicine (0.6mg 1-4x a day). It is GENETIC and usually runs on BOTH sides of the family by the way. One of my grown children is starting to have facial discoloration after fighting "acne" for a few years and won't try Colchicine cause of course mommie doesnt know anything! smile ...But it is just like her daddy's hands started years ago after a burn etc and I BET that she would start to notice improvement in a month or so. She looks like her freckles got half bleached on her cheeks. If you are from the Trinidad area you are in a good place cause there is a Doctor there that has told me she will give people with symptoms of FMF a 30 day trial of colchicine.
Send me an email if you like and I will tell you more!

Dear J.,

I am a licensed Esthetician (professional skin therapist) and RN and own a skin care and acne clinic in the Denver area. I have lots of experience with this situation. Dark spots from acne are very differerent than other types of hyperpigmentation or dark spots since they are a result of previous inflammation from the acne lesions. Therefore most fading serums, lighteners, etc. do not work very well for these kind of spots, so save your money! They are not true scaring either since they will eventually fade away, but it can take a long time. I have my clients use ice 2-5x a day to decrease the inflammation as soon as a blemish appears. If you do this then the blemish will not leave a mark after it has healed and it also helps the blemish heal faster. The marks/spots you have now are a result of the previous inflamation. Depending on how new they are then ice may still do the trick. Put an ice cube in a baggy or paper cup with water into the freezer and run it over your blemishes for 2 minutes/count to 120. If you squeeze or pick an area, then you must ice asap to get the red/inflammation down so it won't leave a spot later.

You may also email directly and tell me more about your skin and what your skin tone is (such as light or dark, etc.) and I may be able to recommend some other ideas: ____@____.com

Note: If anyone has "stubborn, resistant" acne that is reading this, then I can help you. Feel free to email me with your questions.

M.

J.,
Mary Kay has some products that should help. First of all you want to be on a good skin care routine - cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturize, protects. The Day/Night solution also helps even out skin tone as well as repair scaring, plus protect from sun and free-radicals. They also have other products that even out skin tone. It's a very high quality product, and a little bit goes a really long way, so it costs less than a dollar a day.
