My dad is borderline diabetic. My parents are trying to change there eating habits to adjust. They have always eaten fairly healthy and taken vitamins. My mom is looking for a good diabetic cookbook. Also if you have any other lifestyle tips to help prevent going into full diabetes. Thanks everyone!!

Hi Stacy,

So, this will not be the most popular response you'll get. However, give it a chance. :)

I'm high risk for diabetes, my father is not doing well from complications, and my aunt is in a wheelchair and almost blind from it. I take this risk super serious. I was terrified when I read the statistics and health problems stemming from diabetes.

So, I did lots of research, and found that the best choice for me is a vegan diet. See this link; it's pretty amazing what it can do for you.

If you don't think your folks could commit to this diet, try reducing meats and milk products....instead of meat three times a day, or twice a day drop to once every few days or so. Avoid cheese and milk...

Most people think vegan diet is crazy and only for PETA people but it has amazing health benefits.

Good luck, and best wishes to your family.

Tell your dad to go on a whole foods diet. Everything in its natural form. Uncooked if possible. This should help him a lot. He'll probably lose some weight as well, if he needs to. Also he should limit his meat intake. If he can live without it it would be better. He also doesn't have to follow any calorie counter, because its just plain healthy!
