Hi moms,
I am looking for a farm that I could take my 2 and a half year old to pet/feed the animals. We've done the Cols Zoo, but if anyone knows of a farm, even if it is outside of Cols, please let me know. Thanks much!!!

Slate Run Historical Farm is a lot of fun. It's free and depending on the time of year you go, there are a lot of things that kids can participate in. In the fall, they can help make apple cider and applesauce...you can also pick the last of the corn stalks and strip the dried corn off the cobs for the animals to eat. In the summer you can help water the garden and pick vegetables...basically, any chore that needs done, the kids can help with. It is a real working farm. The animals are not free roaming, but you can pet them in their stalls. All of the workers are dressed in the 1800's. It is located just outside of Canal Winchester. There is also Slate Run Park...which has a fishing pond and play area and nature trails. My family and I like to go there first and cook out. Then, off to the farm. Here are a couple of links to check out...

Slate Run is awesome. They have a living farm, the kids can pet the baby sheep, and cows, and the horses, they show them how to shuck corn the "old fashioned" way, and you can watch them take care of the gardens, and work the farm. There is also two picnic/playground areas, adn a fishing lake. They even have like 3 hour hiking trails. Some shorter ones too. It's out in Lithoplis Ohio. You can pull up Slate Run Park online and get directions. I live in Pickerington, and it takes us about 15 mintues to get there. We go there ALL the time!

Good luck!

Hi E.,
There is a "living farm" in Canal Winchester. It is actually part of a public park. I cannot remember the exact name but I used to take my kids there when they were little. They loved it. And, it is far enough that they usually fell asleep in the car. Good Luck. L.

Velvet Ice Cream in Newark (70 East to 13, just north of Newark)had a petting farm, but I think its just a couple of goats now, but it is usually a fun family day. In addition to the goats, they have fishing, walking paths, a playground, and picnic tables to enjoy your icecream or a lunch.

There is also another place that advertises as a petting farm in Pataskala out Broad street. However, I have never checked it out.

There is a petting farm at the Columbus Zoo.
