I would urge you to look into biomedical treatments for your son. www.tacanow.org is a good resource as well as Dr. Bock's Healing the New Childhood Epidemics.
My 7 year old son was recently diagnosed with Asperger's. We are looking for a psychologist to work with him. He needs help dealing with his anger (as most AS kids do), but we're also troubled by some things he has said about hurting himself. Does anyone have any experiences with local child psychologists? We have a few names, but thought I'd see if any of you have recommendations. We do want someone who works with Asperger's kids. Also, we are looking for some good support groups, if any of you have experience with one.
Thanks for all those who responded. I have some more research to do!

Try Children's Medical Center. I took my daughter many years ago and they had a wonderful program which was in a different building than the actual hospital. I hope this helps! Take care!
Here's a few suggestions:
Dr. Barbara Groussman, child psychologist on Coit between Park and Parker. ###-###-#### She has been practicing for about 20 years; part of that time at Scottish Rite. My daughter who is diagnosed with Obsessive Defiant Disorder likes her. We've been seeing her for about 3-4 years.
Children's Hospital Child Psychology. You can look them up on the web. My daughter was in their outpatient day treatment center. Also, one of their directors left and formed her own group; I believe it's called Lakewood Therapy. They have play therapy groups near hwy 75 and Legacy.
Hi K.,
Dr. Derrick Blanton & Dr. Susan Randoing are two of many psychologists that I have working relationships with. I work for a private school in Plano, Great Lakes Academy, that specializes in educating students with various learning differences such as, Asperger's. Our students get one on one attention, social skills classes, and individualized gap plans so that they are afforded the opportunity to be successful both academically and socially. Feel free to visit our website at www.greatlakesacademy.us or call to make an appointment for a tour.
I don't know of one, but I'll pray for you and your son!
We used Dr. Denise Wooten in Lewisville. She specializes in Aspergers kiddos. She is very good and really gets it.
The following counseling center is not in Plano, but has and is helping my grandson, who is 8 (not suffering from the same issue). The center is located in Midlothian:
Freeedom Counseling Assoc., Inc
408 W Avenue F
Midlothian

We have sent my 6 year old step son to a therapist due to some anger issues and trouble dealing with his not-so-sane mother. Shannon Bradshaw is who we sent him to in Frisco. She is GREAT and my son just adores her. I would highly recommend her. Good luck!
My son has ADHD and we were referred to a licensed child play therapist. Amy Allen Meyer is fantastic and works with kids on a variety of issues!!
