Looking for Charitable Organizations to Help During the Holidays

I am totally embarassed to put myself and my family out there, when usually we are donating gifts to Toys for Tots and picking children to buy for off the Angel Tree, but I just don't know what else to do. My husband who is legally blind has a vending business at a rest area, and sales are WAY down. We barely have enough to cover our bills, thank the Lord we do, but it leaves us with NOTHING to spend on our five children on Christmas. They are 13, 11, 7, 2, and 1 month. Because of my husband's disability he cannot get a job and I just had a baby a month ago. My husband is an only child and has no family so it isn't even like they will get gifts from grandparents. My only living relative is my father and he gave us what little he has to help pay bills. I contacted several churches and organizations but was rejected, there are just too many people in need and apparently I should have known about this situation months ago when applications were being taken. I am immensely saddened that I have nothing for ANY of my children. Does anyone know of organizations out there that are still helping families during the holidays?

I guess I should have mentioned I live in Indianapolis, more specifically the Speedway area. I want you all to know I am trying your suggestions.

I know the Cheer Committee in Hendricks Co used to help. The schools collected food and money, but I'm not sure how they find families to help. Maybe one of the school secretaries could tell you.

I am not sure where you live but if you live in Hamilton County in Indiana there is an organization called Good Samaritan. They just did a whole big toy/clothing drive and might have more to give out but you could try there. IF you can't find a number for them call Bridgeway Community Church in Fishers and they can either get you help or get you straight to Good sam....God Bless

I know this is not the specific topic that you asked, but has your husband contacted the local vocational rehabilitation office? They can assist with financial support for employment consultation to assist your husband in finding employment. Unfortunately, I don't know of charities that can assist, but I will keep you in my thoughts.

Can you let someone at your church know you need some help? The pastor? Is there a charity team?
