Hi Everyone,

I know this is last minute, but I am entertaining this Friday evening and realized I am out of the Beer bread packages I thought I still had. Is there anyone in or near the west side of Elgin area who would sell me a package or two by this Thursday. I need to make it then since I'm working all day Friday. Thanks and let me know! :)

What can I do next?

Hello,
You need a package mix for beer bread? I used to make this from scratch, it's so easy.
If you can find the mixes, wouldn't this be just as easy? Beer bread only has 3 ingredients.

From Cooks Recipes.com
Here's the easiest loaf of bread you'll ever make. The beer gives it a deep yeast flavor. If you like, add your favorite herbs or seeds such as sesame, millet, etc., or even a bit of shredded cheese.

Beer Bread
3 cups self-rising flour*
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 (12-ounce) can of beer
Preheat oven to 375*F (190*C). Lightly grease or spray a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Combine all ingredients, mixing well.
Pour into prepared loaf pan and bake for 1 hour.
Makes 1 loaf.

*Or you may substitute with 3 cups all purpose flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt.

If you are unable to get a hold of a box of the bread, here is a recipe that tastes just the same. Hope it helps some :)

1 12oz bottle of beer
3 cups self rising flour (or 3 cups all purpose flour, 4 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp salt)
3 tbl sugar (or more depending upon how sweet you want it)
1/4 cup melted butter (for on top)

Just like the TS recipe just mix it all together, pour in greased loaf pan and pour the melted butter on top and bake 350 for 45-60 mins.

The recipe is from allrecipes.com if you want more info. :)

I have a recipe to make beer bread from scratch. It's pretty easy:
3 C. self-rising flour
3 T. sugar
12 oz. can warm beer

Preheat oven 375 degrees
mix ingredients with a spoon, not beaters. should look like pan cake batter when mixed.

bake in well greased loaf pan, 1 hour

I think self-rising flour should be pretty easy to find in most grocery stores.

If you don't get your package or two,
at least this is a plan B!
