We live in Long Beach too and have the same concerns with our 4 year old son. We are looking at the Westerly School for K-8. It is a small independent school that is very safe. Not sure what to do about high school yet.
Hi Moms,
I am doing research on private level K kindergarten schools in the OC area, specifically Seal Beach, Huntington Beach and maybe a little farther south. CrossRoads Santa Monica http://www.xrds.org/podium/default.aspx?t=109692 is the kind of school I would like to find, but in the OC area. My son is currently enrolled in a Montessori preschool in Long Beach but I want to get him into a school that goes from K-high school that is private, and not in Long Beach because although the schools in LB are reputable, I am tired of hearing about the gang killings every week of which many of these take place, according to the OC Register and LB Post, in Long Beach on a weekly basis, so I plan on moving from the area by time my son starts kindergarten.

My son goes to Calvary Chapel. The one is Fountain Valley is very large and goes through 12th grade. It is in a nice area and it is a great school. I know several of the Calvary Chapel Churches also have shools (as well as a few other local OC churches) that are very good.
I sent you a private message about my experience.
Check out Huntington Christian school in HB! Excellent academics (not sure about your religious pref). They go to 8th, but carry over to a private school nearby if you choose to go that route
