I am looking for an affordable daycare for my 3 month old daughter. I am a single mother and can only afford to spend around $500-600 a month (max-really need something more affordable). Do any daycares like this exist or are there any programs that assist single, professional moms?

What can I do next?

Hi E.,

I don't know what zip code you live in but I take my son to a woman that does it out of her home and she charges $150/week and that includes breakfast, lunch and 1 or 2 snacks a day. She is really great. Right now she has my son who will be 2 in October and a 7 month old little girl. She also has another little boy that goes twice a week. If you would like her number I would be happy to give it to you. You can email me at ____@____.com is located in the 60634 zipcode.

Good luck,

N.

I don't know of a specific childcare program, but you may look into "Action for Children" http://www.daycareaction.org/ to maybe help with payment.

Hi E.,

I'm in the process of looking for childcare myself. I do have a number for you to call for the organization Action for Children -- they can provide you with a list of daycare providers in your neighborhood, and I believe they are sensitive to people who need affordable daycare. Their number is ###-###-####.

Hi E.,
Where are you located? I do babysitting in my home and would be willing to negotiate an affordable fee for you. I have 12 yrs. of in-home experience and now am home with my two little ones. I live in Evanston, so I don't know how that would work for you geographically... Let me know. ~A.

Yes they do exist and you can probably get into gov't subsidized childcare program if you fall in certain range of income. Check with the childcare center you choose. Try to see if you park district or city has any childcare. Elk grove has some good childcare center.

E.,
You might want to check out Daycare action. They can provide you with additional monies so you can afford a good daycare. Depending upon what your monthly income is. Here is the link: http://www.daycareaction.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.vi...

You can find an office to speak with someone who can provide you with some additional information and the exact criteria.

Good Luck!!!!!

Dear E.,

I think these women may be able to help you, though I am unsure about the age limit. It is called, Gentle Friends Childrens Garden and it is Waldorf inspired child care. If you don't know what Waldorf is, it is OK, at 3 months, you daughter will only know she is well taken care of! I used them for my 17 month old for two weeks last month when I had to take some classes during the week. She had never been in child care before and loved it! I am thinking about having her go once a week in the Fall just for socialization purposes. It is a home based child care run by this great lady named Melyssa Reesh and her partner Joy Waldron. They are in Humbolt Park at 3223 West LeMoyne. Melyssa's cel # is ###-###-#### and her home # is: ###-###-####. They have a website as well at: www.gentlefriends.com but I've never gone on it so I don't know what it looks like. Infant child care is stupid expensive in the City so please be careful when shopping for care for your little one. Cheaper doesn't always mean better, these women are liscenced, experienced and loving. They were also affordable!!! If they can't help you, they may be able to reccommend someone who can.

Good Luck!!!
