Looking for a Sporadic Baby Sitter

My husband and I are looking for a baby sitter to come over once in a while and watch our girls so we can go out. We have family in the area, but we don't want to "impose" on them all of the time, and yet I don't really know anyone well enough to ask them to watch my girls, so I wanted to see if any of ya'll had some recommendations. Also, do you give out house rules or how does this work? Like for instance, we would prefer for them not to be in the car with the sitter, no friends, boy friends, or any else over unless we have met them and pre approved them. Etc...want to be cautious but not over the top!

What can I do next?

My husband and I are in the same boat as you however, we do not have family in the area. We moved to Spring almost 1 1/2 yrs. ago and we also have not gotten to that point to trust someone with our children. Our current sitter is my husbands younger cousin....she lives 1 hr. away (in LaPorte) so we only have her come maybe once a month. Anyway, my point is....YES, lay down the rules from the beginning. All of these things that you are writting are logical requests and requests that any parent would make to ensure the safety of our children. We did the same thing with his cousin....no friends, no boyfriends, no car etc... We also do not really give her a "set" time that we will be home so she knows it really could be any time that we could pop in. Good luck with your search. I hope some time soon, we too can find a really good sitter for our two girls.

Hello L.,

My husband and I just moved to Spring at the end of July and are having the same problem. My parents live in Porter and my husbands mom lives in Pasadena. We would much rather find someone close that can come over and watch our child so we can get out. How old are your girls? Maybe we could alternate..hee,hee..I'm not kidding. :)

As far as laying down the house rules...it is an absolute must. I don't really think there is a such thing as being over the top when it comes to your children and someone you don't know very well in your home. You need to make sure all aspects are safe and well taken care of. (your house and children)...

I am a mom of four children, ages 18 to 5, one of which has mild Cerebral Palsy and I know how difficult and stressful it would be to try to find someone to babysit one of my young children that I could trust. I saw your post and thought I would respond and let you know that my 18 year old senior daughter babysits and is as responsible as you could find out there. She is top of her class, National Honor Society, already has four college acceptance letters, has already has won scholarship money for college. She plays three instruments and has done both academic and music tutoring in the past. She is just a great kid and if you ever need a sitter I'm sure she would be interested. You could meet her ahead of time, perhaps at a mall play area so you and your children could meet her prior if you would like.
