Ok, I'm a big girl but I'm not in the realm of HUGE by any means. Looking for a size friendly Dr. that won't blame everything on my size to immediately say "well, if you lost some weight....." Gee thanks! Dr. Sherlock, I've ever thought of that! Now that I'm 40, I'd like to have a full workup but I dread going to my current Dr. I'd also like to find the same in an OB/GYN. The group practice I go to now is "ok", they do the job but last year I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, perfectly healthy, I had HBP and gained 70lbs...I actually had one of the members say "Well if you'd eat less and move more!" I exercised 4 days a week and ate healthy....case in point, 50 of those lbs were off in 2 weeks (gee, fluid maybe?!) and I've taken off 10 more since leaving 10 higher than I started. I don't think that's so bad! We're not planning on anymore kids but recently we thought we were gonna get a surprise so I'd like to get my ducks in a row in general and have a supportive Dr. as well. Thanks so much!

Airie

Airie I was just talking about this issue with my husband yesterday. My younger son had a weight issue for a long time. I always thought he as beautiful and perfect. He was him. He had lost 60 pounds. He spent a lot of time dieting and went to the doctor. The nurse who weighed at least forty more pounds than him said "Did you ever think about losing weight". I snapped at her and actually thought about telling her what to do with her butt. The point is people are beautiful and healthy at all ages. That kind of comment caused my very happy young man to go on horrid diets and he is not himself, he looks like a skeleton and is probably eight to one hundred pounds under his original weight. He was a very happy young man in so many ways before. He wanted to be a chef and made beautiful meals, very tasty. Now I believe he is doing all this from what society tends to do to people much like yourself, or myself, who are not skinny and tiny (I was at one point myself and I recall being dizzy from starvation and cranky all the time). They put pictures of stick models up and very few can emulate those people and they create chldren and adults who are insecure and are even healthy yet belittled by the medical profession. Well, I also paid close attention to doctors and nurses last year when I was in the hospital and they do not even keep to the ridiculously high standards people have set up. They are fleshy, have candy bowls on their counters and import wonderful salami sandwiches. Ok, that' s enough from me. I was ready to just praise you for sounding off here and it looks like I did. But I think your choice of doctor like everything else has to evolve with time. I feel I have wonderful doctors now, but I am older and spent years following through on different things. Go to whoever your carrier provides and keep hunting if necessary and if they give you any flack about your beautiful body I give you two sets of advice that do work: look them up and down and find some flaw in their body and ask them what they intend to do about that. You after all are paying them. And if they are still nasty tell em where to put it. Good luck and enjoy your family!

I've got great dr's but they are near me here in Chicago. I'm a bigger woman too.
my gp is Dr Garcia at Garcia Medical Center on Fullerton. ###-###-####
gyne is Dr Albert Chams, they have a few offices; Chicago by Peterson and Pulaski ###-###-####, Buffalo Grove and I/m not sure of others.
and obgyne is Dr Valfer the office I saw him at was just off Lake Cook Rd, close to the I94. ###-###-####. but I know he has a few other offices too.

the reason I have 2 gyne's is I've been seeing Dr Albert for YEARS and I love him but he only does the gyne part now. when I got pg when my daughter 3 years ago he treated me till I was out of the 3rd tri and then referred me to Dr Valfer.
Dr Valfer is nice too, very cut and dry. my appts lasted like 15 min at most. he would check my belly, ask if I had questions, answer any I had and then it was done. lol but I will definitely go to him if we have another baby.

We've used Dr. Susan Locke too and had a good experience with her. I've since switched to Naturopathy though and found Dr. Michelle Brannick on Harlem in Riverside. She's been wonderful for me and for my kids. I think we are done with MD's :)

We love Dr. Susan Locke in River Forest. I'm not sure if she's taking new patients, but she is wonderful. Our whole family goes there- including my two sons. I love that she has not judged us for some of the choices we have made. I could not imagine her being judgmental ever, really. If you cannot get her, her partner, Dr. Robin Uchitelle, is great too.
