Not super-expensive but has great food. Steak, seafood, pasta, beer, etc.
We really like Petterino's. It's just a couple of blocks away at Dearborn & Randolph and the food is great. Everything from a (fancy) grilled cheese to steak, pasta, etc. Their brunch menu is really good too.
You could try Gage on Michigan Ave across from Millennium Park.
Trattoria 10 is good and medium-price, if I recall correctly (it's been a while.) Atwood Cafe is excellent, but a little pricey.
Oh, and if it's a nice afternoon or evening for a walk, the Park Grill in Millennium Park is really good, I think. They have a pretty straightforward menu of American basics (burgers, steaks, pasta, seafood) but with some fun twists and surprising flavors, and the location in the park is really nice. They also have fixed-price menu for theater-goers ($30, you pick from a few things for each course.)
Hi, my husband works at the Goodman Theatre (Dearborn between Lake and Randolph) so we have tried out a lot of the restaurants around that area. It really depends on your price point. There are a lot of pricey restaurants around there and a lot of fast food places as well, so you have a lot of choices. Petterino's is a Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant and they have some good middle of the rood options (their burgers and their Chop salad are great). They are actually connected to the Goodman on the corner of Dearborn and Randolph. If you are willing to splurge, the Walnut Room was great when it was Marshall Field's, I haven't been there since Macy's took it over. Catch 35 has great seafood, but is a bit of a walk, it is on Wacker between Dearborn and State. The prices are decent for the area. I always get the sea bass and would highly recommend it. If you are looking for something a little more casual and less expensive, there is a pub called Elephant & Castle that I think is on Wabash between Lake and Randolph (they moved there a couple of years ago, you may want to double check the location) and they have great pub food. The lamp curry is great as is the fish and chips. Finally, if you are willing to walk a bit more, Miller's Pub has great food as well and is probably our favorite place to go if time permits. It is on Wabash near Adams. It is reasonably priced and has really good food.
