I am looking for a preschool in North Carmel. We will be relocating there in late September. I like the location of Abacus preschool and was wondering if any one knows if it is a good preschool? Does anyone know of any other ones in that area that are good?

What can I do next?

My boys (now 12 and 10) went to the preschool affiliated with my church, Pilgrim Lutheran Preschool. We were very happy and I know many others who have been as well. All the teachers are very caring and attentive and my kids had a great head start into elementary school. It is located off Meridian just north of I465. They attend from 9 - 12:30 (I think) but have an "extended day" option until around 2:00. As of last week they had openings for 2 year olds. I'm not sure about 4 yr olds but it's definitely worth a phone call. Good luck!

If you find a LEARNING TIME preschool in that area, GO FOR IT! I KNOW they have a couple other locations. We use the one at 86th & Zionsville Road. WORTH looking into. WONDERFUL STAFF & PROGRAMS!

I live about 20 minutes west of Carmel in the Zionsville area. I have several coworkers that do live in the Carmel area. I would be happy to ask around for you, if you would like.

My school age daughter attends Abacus and we are quite happy. HOWEVER, we had the most wonderful preschool ever. Little Lamb is at Greyhound Pass and 146th St (behind Barnes and Noble). The teachers there loved my girl and took such good care of her. They have a great cirriculum and wonderful staff. If they offered care for older children, i would still be there. You simply must go and tour this facility. (Some of my favorite teachers are still there, Ms. Chris, Mrs. Susan....the list could continue).

We looked at the Abacus in Westfield, but I think they are owned by the same people. The facilities were nice, but we were unhappy that almost all the teachers seemed to be imigrants that barely spoke english. None had a degree (although some were working towards one). Our son has a speech delay and one of the big reasons we wanted a daycare/preschool was to help so we didn't think that having non-english speaking teachers would be a good idea.

We also looked at Goddard in N Carmel and were thoroughly impressed. It is very pricey, but if we were to decide to go ahead with it, that is likely where we would go. They have a very structured day there.

Are you looking for a preschool or a daycare? I'm just asking because Abacus is really nice (within walking distance of my house), but it's on the expensive side. It's more of a daycare than a preschool, too, so they don't have a set "day" because kids are in/out at different times all day long.

If you want a preschool preschool for just a few hours a few days a week, there are several great options in Carmel. Most of the preschools are at a church but arent' really religous in any way and most preschool families dont' belong to the church their preschool is at. Personally, we love St Peters in Carmel. This will be our 5th year there. They have a Moms Day Out program for 18 months and 2 years (Sept 1 is cutoff date) and a preschool program for 3/4 and 4/5 (pre-k). The kids can go 2 or 3 mornings a week and the pre-k kids have a 4 and 5 day a week option. It's 9-11:20am with optional "lunch bunch" where they stay until 1pm. I think there are still a few openings for this year. Call them and talk with Lori -- ###-###-####

Hi L.. Abacus is right by our house. I have a few friends that send their kids there. The rates are very reasonable, and I have never heard anything bad about it. One friend works full time so her daughter goes there as if it were a daycare, but my other friend does not work and her daughter only goes part time. I think it is more like a daycare though. I may be wrong, but some other schools near there are Pilgrim Lutheran...around 96th and Meridian. I have heard great things about that school. We send our kids to Christ United Methodist in Westfield. It is just over the Carmel/Westfield town line. It takes me 8 minutes to get there from my house. The teachers are wonderful and the tuition rates are amazingly good. I'm sure there are other schools around the area, it just depends on where you move. Good Luck! You will love it here.
