Looking for a Great Skin Bump Product That Can Help Eliminate Shave-like Bumps

I've had these tiny bumps on my legs and thighs for years that I believe was as a result of me shaving the wrong way and I've tried every other hair removal option that there is and the problem hasn't seemed to improve. Now the same bumps are starting to appear on the back of my arm and they are unpleasant to look at or feel. Anyone know of a cosmetic product that targets this kind of problem please offer your advice. Thanks and God bless.

Hydrocortizone cream, 1%, like you can get at walmart for $2. It helps me. And a cheap fix, for starters.

My daughter's doctor recommended Amlactin lotion for similar bumbs on the back of her arms. I had to ask the pharmacist for it, they keep it behind the counter.

I have had this too on the back of my arms. My dermatologist told me it was actually a type of dry skin. She told me to use Amlactin lotion on it. It works great! It used to be a prescription lotion, but now it's over the counter. You need to ask the pharmacist for it because they usually keep it behind the counter (it's a little pricey). Good luck!

Don't know about the bumps on your legs but my friend had bumps on the back of her arms and it ended up being a vitamin A deficiency. Here's a little info.

This is a symptom of Vitamin A deficiency. It is called Chicken Skin. An early sign of Vitamin A deficiency is chicken skin - small raised bumps on the back of the neck, upper arms, back and shoulders. Other deficiency symptoms are premature wrinkles, acne, pimples, blackheads, psoriasis, vision disorders, respiratory problems, dry, rough, itchy, scaly, cracked skin and slowed healing.

You need to increase your dietary intake of Vitamin A. Once eaten, beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A(retinol) in the body when needed. It's a powerful antioxidant in its own right.

Foods rich in Beta Carotene (Vitamin A) are:- Fish liver oil, liver, carrots, dark green and yellow vegetables, eggs, milk and dairy products, margarine and yellow fruits.

Vitamin A rich foods will keep the outer layers of your tissues and organs healthy, help in the removal of age spots, if you have them, promote growth, strong bones, healthy skin, hair, teeth and gums, help treat acne, superficial wrinkles, impetigo, boils, carbuncles and open ulcers when applied externally.

Another deficiency symptom of Vitamin A is night blindness.

Recommended daily intake of Vitamin A is 4,000 IU for females.

I'm sure if you follow my advice you will be more than pleased with your renewed skin texture !!!

I had the same problem and went to a dermatologist and they said that it is actually caused by dry skin. They recommended using a moisturizing body wash, patting the skin dry after getting out of the tub or shower, and then using a super moisturizing lotion like Epilyt or Amlactin which you can get from the pharmacy without a prescription. My pharmacy (Target) didn't have Epilyt but ordered it and it came in within 3 days. It really helped.

Those bumps on your arms are keratosis and there's no known way to get rid of them, but there are ways to minimize per wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris

I get these also, but have found as that article mentions that by getting sufficient vitamin A, they are dramatically minimized. Also, as that article mentions, my doctor believes they can also be a sign of allergies, like dairy and gluten. I have been on a gluten and dairy free diet for almost 5 years, so that may have helped, as well.

Try Cetaphil which you can buy at Wal-Mart, etc. It is a great product that clears skin issues and is relatively inexpensive. Use a loofah and suds it well into the skin. Worked wonders for our family.

Look up keratosis pilaris. This is a condition I have as well as a couple other moms I know. It is just the way your skin is.....doesn't have anything to do with shaving. A good dermatologist can give you a cream (Amlactin) to soften the bumps, but they probably won't go away totally. Mine seem to clear up some in the sun and also seem to get worse right after I have a baby. Good Luck!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having to deal with this - it can be uncomfortable and unsightly. I read the previous posts and see two of the three points I was going to share with you.

1. Make sure you're getting a proper vitamin supplement that includes 100% of Vitamin A
2. Gently exfoliate - I personally recommend (and use) Pretty Feet and Hands once a week. Available at CVS pharmacies (but you'll probably have to ask where they have it)
3. Eucerin lotion

The Pretty Feet and Hands is an exfoliant without any abrasives - don't be put off by the price as a bottle will likely last you more than 6 months if used weekly. We also love the Vaseline Milk and Honey bath powder - especially when the air gets dry and skin starts to feel tight. Hope this helps and good luck.

It is keratosis pilaris. The Eucerin lotion is really good because of the alpha hydroxy, but the lotion from the dermatologist that one person suggested is probably the best way. I use the Eucerin on myself and my daughter and it seems to help. I spoke to my daughters allergist about it when she developed it, and it is something that is hereditary that a lot of people get. My mother has it, I have it, and one of my daughters have it

I had them on the back of my arms and thighs for years and finally my dermatologist suggested Eucerin brand lotion. It worked! After a month or two they were gone. I used it for over two years and recently, to save $$ I switched brands and they came back. I am back to Eucerin and I can already tell a difference. Good luck!

What you have is called Keratosis. It is not curable, but there are things you can do to help. My daughter has it on her arms and face. She really hates it, because the kids tease her. The doctor said she could prescribe a steroid cream my daughter could use for a couple of weeks before a big event, but she said the steroids can lead to acne, so she can't use it ongoing. Hi C.,

Your symptoms sound very similar to what I have been dealing with throughout my life. It isn't terrible, just annoying more than anything. I get the bumps on the back of my arms...it is like the pores can't release natural oils as they should, and sometimes it causes arm hair to get "stuck" inside the skin. When my mother took me to the dermatologist YEARS ago, a Buff Puff (to exfoliate) and Cetaphil cleanser was recommended. I still use both products 17 years later, and my arms are smooth! When I stop using the products the bumps come back, but within days of using the puff and Cetaphil I am back to smooth. I've tried other salt/sugar based exfoliants in the past only to find that my skin smelled good, but the bumps were still there.

Good luck to you! I know it's a pain!!!

Can't say for sure but it sounds like you might have some mild eczema. Not all eczema itches, it can just be bumps. Usually a prescription for a mild steroid cream will help a lot. Go see your doc, and I hope they go away soon.

I am not an MD or a DC but if the bumps are on the back of your arm they may be from a sluggish lymphatic system. Our skin is a filtering organ. You could dry going to a WHole Foods type store and talk to someone about dry brushing in the health section.

Check with a Dermatologist, but this may be enlarged hair folicles. I think they call it Keritosis Polaris. It is heriditary, and there is not much you can do about it. The Dermatologist had me use Lac-Hydrin lotion that you can buy from behind the counter. It is basically a high concentration of alpha hydroxy acid. It keeps the dead skin from clogging up the hair folicles.

I feel your pain! I have the same condition. it is not from shaving they are from ingrown hairs..i've been to the skin dr. about this. they put me on some horrible skin products that really tore up my skin. i gave up. now they have gone away on their own. My dad had the same skin condition and I think my son might as well! (6 years old). I'm not sure if this is the same but it sounds like it. I wish i had a solution for you...only hope it goes away like mine did.

I'm 36 now, it was really more intense when i was younger.

For shaving I use and Arbonne product called Sea Salt Scrub. It has an oil in it. After you rinse of the salt it leaves an oil and you can use that to shave with. You will not get bumps. You can use it anywhere on your body too. As for the arms, my daighter has those. The doctor says they really don't go away.
Arbonne also has a product called Sugar Slush. It is a body scrub. I have a consultant that you can contact. ____@____.com

Hi C.,
The bumps can also be from the products with harmful ingredients being used on your skin... I've known a couple people who had that problem and then tried Arbonne. They bumps were minimized and I heard one say they were basically gone. Know that they didn't go away over night, just as they didn't appear over night. If you haven't tried Arbonne's products, I'd be happy to help you out. My email is ____@____.com. Please don't hesitate to give me a shout. If you do have an Arbonne consultant, definitely contact her.

Arbonne also has a new SeaSource Detox Spa line of products that could be very beneficial for you.

Many Blessings!

My daughter had something that sounds very similar, but only on her arms. She went away for a few days and I noticed that her arms were completely smooth when she returned. It turned out that she'd had no milk while she was gone - once she started back on milk, the bumps came back. Try it and let me know what happens.

You may want to try a shower gel from Arbonne - check them out on-line www.arbonne.com - they have some great products. I have used their shower gel before and I even use it to shave with - leaves skin very smooth and soft. This is kind of pricey, but, if it works, then, it will be worth it.

Give it a try and if this does not help, you may need to see a dermatologist.

I get something like that - however they get ichy - my I figured out was I am slightly allergic to mineral oil that is use in lotions, creams etc. It took me a while to figure it out because I had to use the product for several months and it would take about 3 weeks to start to really bother me - a girlfriend told me to read the label and if it contained mineral oil to stop using the product and sure enough it went away

good luck

Sounds like Keratosis. I have been using Extra Virgin Coconut Oil on my son and it's working wonders!!! You can get a jar at Whole Foods or Central Market (maybe other grocery stores too), it's about $16, but will last forever. I prety much put it all over my son instead of lotions even though he only has them on his thighs and upper arms. Good luck!

I dont know what other recommendations you have gotten, but I had the same problem. Mine were mainly on my thighs and the backs of my arms. It is a result of dry skin! I have been using Arbonne body wash and lotion, and no more bumps!!
I truely believe what you put in/and on your body is a result of how your skin looks and feels. Arbonne products are pure, safe, and benefical! They are botanically based and pH correct for all skin types!
Email me and I would be happy to give your more information on more products!!

I have had these bumps on the back of my arms for years and during and after pregnancy they came to my thighs. The dermatologist said to use a lotion with lactic acid twice a day and use some kind of scrubbie(or even a loofah) to remove dead skin cells. As long as you do this, it helps. Sometimes it's hard to get a quick shower much less loofah and lotion. The lotion I use is Amlactin and you can get it behind the pharmacy desk or sometimes they have to special order it. Good luck!

Even though I love my Bath & Body Works Shower Gels - I think I am going to have to switch back to Aveeno for a while.
