I would look at Hudson WI or Red Wing. Both are close and have beautiful historic downtown areas with quite a few B & Bs, we stayed at one in Hudson a few years back, but I don't remember the name.
Hello Ladies. My husband and I were planning on going to California during his spring break since he is a teacher, but since our finances are struggling, we decided to cancel. But we would still like to go to a Bed and Breakfast or a nice hotel for a few days just to get away. We have not taken any type of Vacation without our children in 3 years and would really like to! Does anyone know of a good town to visit or a good B & B that is driving distance from the twin cities. We are looking to go for a long weekend in a couple of weeks. Thanks Ladies!

My husband and I have stayed in several B & B's since we've been married. The first was the Phipps Inn in Hudson- amazing!, we have also stayed at the Lawthler Octagon House in Red Wing- very nice as well, and then we made a weekend of it one year and went to Lucy's in Bayfield WI for one night and then drove down to Hayward and stayed at the Lumberman's Inn there. That was a fun weekend away as well. We are both thinking it's time to get away again, just us- your request has provided me with the inspiration to begin looking into our next destination!
The Anderson House in Wabasha, MN. Drive down the WI side, though. There's more to do and see a long the way. A lot of cute little restaurants, beautiful views of Lake Pepin, apple orchards...
My husband and I spent a long weekend last summer in Red Wing. We stayed at the St. James Hotel. Lots of shops and a nice riverfront. Would highly recommend!
I would HIGHLY recommend the Rivertown Inn in Stillwater. It is beautiful and the food is phenominal. Although it is costy, try to get into one of the suites. Have fun!
The Asa Parker House in Marine on St. Croix is lovely and it's a nice area to visit: http://www.asaparkerbb.com/ .
Check out Lanesboro, MN, it's in the southeast corner of the state. We stayed at the Scanlan House B&B and LOVED it! Lanesboro has lots of cute shops, a theater, and a winery to visit too.
My ILs have visited several in Stillwater and have loved all of them. Loved walking "downtown" with all the great shops.
I like Stillwater, but you can make that a day trip. If you're really looking to get away, I suggest "up north". I personally like Grand Marais or Madaline Island. I also 'second' SE MN (and across the river in WI). It's great biking country too.
Im a fan of Stillwater. There has to be something that way. :) Enjoy!

Stillwater has several wonderful B&B's and is just far enough away without a long drive. I have really enjoyed staying at the Elephant Walk. If you search for Minnesota Bed and Breakfasts, there are several good sites you can search with a directory of B&B's. Lanseboro and Red Wing are also fun place to go to a B&B depending on what you want to do during the day. Have fun!

This place is awesome and only two hours from the city (Duluth). http://www.olcotthouse.com/
yes, stillwater is loaded with B & Bs.... Their cute main street is loaded with antique shops and specialty stores as well- good for a little stroll with a coffee.
The Elephant Walk in Stillwater is great. They have a good website with pics of the rooms. I highly recommend it. Enjoy your vacation!
