Looking for Somewhere to Go for a Weekend

My husband and I find ourselves without our kids for a weekend (Friday night to Sunday afternoon) in January. We were thinking about going to Chicago for a couple nights, maybe going to Navy Pier or the Mag mile. But we could also drive somewhere (within a 3 hour or so distance). We don't really want to go to Wisconsin Dells since we were just there in August.

Do you ladies have any suggestions? We just want to have some fun!

Try Serenity Springs in Michigan City, Ind. It is a really nice place with cabins that is truly romantic. You can look it up online, www.Serenity-Springs.com

Hi M., since we live so close to downtown Chicago, there is so much to see...Navy Pier, the Art Instiute, the Museums and such...not speaking of the theaters...the money you use for going away, you can spend on some nice lunches and dinners...Chicago is a great place to visit, Chicago is my hometown and it still amazes me...I hope whatever you decide, you will have an awesome time, Love Jo

Try Galena or Lake Geneva. Cedarburg, WI is nice also. I suggest you don't go somewhere super expensive, just go somewhere to be together and enjoy each other.

We went to Milwaukee for the weekend. Great restaurants - lots to do - we went to the Pabst Mansion and went to Cedarburg for the day. Cedarburg is an old town - well preserved downtown area - has antiques, winery, scrapbooking store, chocolate store, cool used bookstore - we loved it. It is about a 30-40 min. drive from Milwaukee.

Cedarburg, WI. is a quaint little town with a couple of B&B's. There's not a ton to do, but with two little ones, you just might need some down time too.

HI
If money is no problem I would say go to Chicago. I am not sure if there are still carriage rides but that was so romantic when we took them, back in High School.

I am now in Kneosha and really love it here. You could do a less expensive getaway, on the same lake. We ahve soem great resturants, a theater, withlive plays, a nice downtown area and soem decent hotels. We are not far form Racine which also has a great down town.

Another idea could be a B and B in Lake Geneva.

Have fun whatever you do,
J.

If you are able to splurge, perhaps book a room or suite at a really nice hotel downtown. I absolutely LOVE The Peninsula - the service is phenomenal and the spa was outstanding. Other upscale options could be the Drake or the Four Seasons, both of which are also just steps off the Mag Mile. Make reservations for a nice adult dinner (that does not have high chairs or a kiddie menu!) and spend time alone with your husband, strolling up and down the Mag Mile, along the lake front or Navy Pier.

It has been several years since we went but the White Rabbit Inn in Lakeside, MI was great. It is a B&B. Our room had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. At the time no kids were allowed. We went during the spring so we could walk along the beach and went antiquing. I do not know what is available to do in the area in the winter.

I agree about Serenity Springs!! My hubby & I went there in the fall & fell in love with the place. It's very hard to leave there. You are catered to in everyway, without ever having to leave your cottage. They surprise you with wonderful things (don't want to spoil the surprise), and try a bottle of the sparkling wine they sell in the office, it's as good as more pricey stuff. I know you won't be disappointed.

Lake Geneva is a beautiful place to go and visit. It has some very nice B&B's. The downtown shopping area is very quaint also. Secondly, I would suggest Starved Rock. They too have some cute B&B's. I'm sure wherever you go, you will have great alone time with the hubby!

We went to The American CLub in Kohler, WI once. It ia a really nice place. They have 2 proporities in which you can stay. The American Club, or The Inn on Woodlake. The later is less expensive, but either way it is a great place. They have restaurants, and stores close by that you can walk to or they take you by horse carriage. They have lots of winter sports as well.

If you want to relax, go to Galena. It's the best relaxation I have ever had. You can stay at a B&B (I recommend the Stillmann Inn) and walk to the town and shop and eat. My husband and I have stayed at the Stillmann 4 times now, the last being our honeymoon and I absolutly love it there. The drive out there isn't too bad, but it's like a whole new world. On our last trip out we even ventured across the border into Iowa and spent 5 hours at the casino gambling. We ended up breaking even too, so it was 5 hours of fun for really no money spent!

It's very exciting to have a weekend alone to look forward to! My husband and I went to Galena last year and stayed at the Irish Cottage. It was wonderful to actually embrace the winter with snow skiing instead of hating the cold weather. Of course, you can indulge in the spa afterward you treat yourself. We had a great time. I recently heard wonderful things about the Herrington Inn and Spa in Geneva, IL but I've never been there myself. Whatever you decide, enjoy yourself.

How about the coast of Lake Michigan in Michigan? St Joe's maybe? My husband and I went for a weekend and it was really nice. There are many little shops that are fun to visit and lots of wineries you could do a wine tasting tour. There are a lot of little cities along the coast so you could travel to many different places in one day.

My husband and I get away together several times a year. Our favorite place to go for a quick weekend is Galena, IL however we recently went to the Amana Colonies in Iowa. It is so cute and we had the best time visiting all the shops. We stayed in Iowa City because we're not huge fans of B&B's--it was only 15 minutes or so away from the colonies.

M., my significant other and I just spent a night at the Whitehall Hotel on Delaware near Rush Street (between Rush and Michigan Avenue) earlier this week. It was really a nice place, close to Navy Pier, the Mag Mile, etc. Rooms were pleasant and quiet. Good luck, enjoy your weekend, and I hope they offer a good rate. We may check it out again in the spring for his 60th bday.

White Rabbit Inn in Lakeside, MI was the most romantic weekend I've ever had! We stayed in Dusty's Cabin and had an absolute blast! It was a little on the expensive side but worth every penny! We stayed at the cabin most of the time but we ventured out and did some antiquing and went out to dinner!
Also - Galena is amazing! We stayed at Eagle Ridge and had a blast! There was a lot to do there as well as in town.
Have fun and I envy you!!!!
