I have been thinking about finding a new Dr. for my kids. I always feel so rushed with our current Dr that I end up forgetting to ask something. Now, my daughter started her period, or so I think at 9 years of age and I called yesterday and wanted to talk to him about it and I never got a call back. ( Update, he just called back, but I am still going to look for a female Dr for her) I would really like to know for sure that my daughter started and its not something like a bladder infection. I live around Paradise Mall area and any place around here or in Scottsdale is fine, we are hoping to someday move back there anyway. Thank you in advance

What can I do next?

A good place to go is North Scottsdale Pediatrics off of 90th and Shea. They are all great doctors there, so any of them would be great to see. My child goes to that office and he see's Dr. Lisa Engel. I work for Scottsdale HealthCare Hospital-Shea Campus on the OB/Gyne floor so I work along side OB's and Ped doctors all day. I highly recommend this office to you. Good Luck!

I live in glendale and drive to Tatum and Shea for this Pediatrician. It is called Paradise Pediatrics, the doctors name is Dr.Tracy Drummond. She is wonderfull! She has never made a bad decision and she spends alot of time with you and your child. She truly cares about the children. I even drove from Surprise to see her when I lived there. She is totally worth it. I had a problem when I was pregnant and I needed to ask her a question about West Nile and she did some research and called me back herself. I completely trust her and I don't trust very many people. I hope you give her a try because I am positive you will like her. Good Luck!

Dr. Karen Prentice, Great Destinations Pediatrics at 75th Avenue & Union Hills. Even does Saturdays and will stay until all kids, even walk-ins, are seen. I can't say enough about her, the clinic philosphy, and they always seem to be right on schedule!

I'm going to put in another good word for Scottsdale Children's Group. We have been seeing Dr. Anne Garret at Scottsdale and Osborn for about a year now and I have been very impressed with her. She always has a lot of good information for me and I always leave her office with some reading about whatever ails my son. The nurse practitioner there (I can't remember her name) is also excellent. We recently decided to start seeing Dr. Susan Burke at the 74th and Shea office since this is closer to where we live, but we haven't had a need to go in yet so I can't really tell you anything about her. I've been really impressed, though, by the entire office staff as they are very friendly and helpful. Same day appointments are no problem if you call in the morning and I have found waiting room times to be very reasonable.

Just a general word of advice. It has been my experience that if you are worried about something and you really want to get a response back quickly, you should ask to talk to a nurse. They really do know alot and will usually get back to you faster than the doctor.

Hi Serena - i've used Pediatrix on the Black Canyon Highway just south of Bell for almost 8 years. They have a full staff of physicians (male and female) that are wonderful, and they have multiple locations. You have a choice of seeing the same doctor each time or not. I have always received a timely return call and they have consistently provided good care for my kids. As far as forgetting to ask questions - write your concerns down prior to your appointment. Most physicians are in a rush, but a good one will see that you have legitimate questions and will take the time to address your concerns fully. And if you have a lot of questions, be sure to let the scheduler know when you book the appointment because maybe they'll need to allow you an extra 10 minutes :-). As far as your daughter goes, once you establish that she's really started her period, you may want to find an OB/GYN to see her. A pediatrician may not be equipped to give her the proper guidance that she'll need. (if it's any comfort, i work in the health insurance industry, so i'm not speaking off-the-cuff). Have a great day Serena!

I have gone to Desert Sun Pediatrics for over four years with my children. I really like it. There are two female doctors. Mine is Dr. Horlick, there is also Dr. Patel, and Dr. Delucca is the male doctor but also very nice and a great doctor. They all have young children of their own. I live in the paradise valley area also, It's on Tatum past Pinacle Peak. Just take Tatum and you run right into it. It's a little drive but its worth it. Nice new offices, and a very nice staff. 26224 N Tatum Blvd Ste 1, ###-###-####. They are highly recomended!

Try Dr. Vivian Zilzter with North Scottsdale Pediatric Associates. Phone is ###-###-####. They have 2 offices in Scottsdale area. My niece is 15 and she still loves Dr. Ziltzer and she has helped my niece and sister-in-law with everything from your issue to depression. I take my 3 year son to her also and we both love her! I have seen the other female & male doctors in the practice and have liked them all so there are other female docs there if you can't get into Dr. Ziltzer. They have a great support staff with nurses returning you calls quickly. Good luck!

Pediatrics Associates at 7600 N 15th St. off 16th street just north of Northern. It's not in Paradise Valley but it's close. We love the Dr's there and have primarily seen Dr. Lauer and Dr. Kelly (both female's) and they are wonderful! Pediatrics is a 24/7 operation. The nursing staff is always polite, professional and friendly. Someone is 'always' available to answer questions. We were referred there and have since referred a number of friends.
