Gloria Dei is a wonderful school with just what you are looking for. It is Christian based, and I have heard nothing but good things. I have two friends whose children go there, and the kids love it.

Also, here in poquoson is Wythe Creek Academy at Poquoson Baptist. They will be accepting children for the following year very soon. If you are interested in either, I recommend talking to someone no later than this month.

here is the web site so you can look at more info. The reg. starts in early april I think and fills up QUICK!!! I mean people wait in line before they open the door to get their children signed up!!!! So make sure you ask about the date sign ups start this year!!! I wish my children could stay there instead of moving on to Public Schools. And that is coming from a Teacher myself!!!

We send our daughter to Gloria Dei Lutheran School. I have a background in education and found myself very picky when looking at preschools. Gloria Dei had everything I was looking for and more!

There is Gloria Dei in Fox Hill area. I teach at a public school near this one and my children went for a few weeks during the summer while I had inservice. Summit Christian Academy is in the Saunder Ave. Area, kinda by Langley. Our Church is affiliated with this school. There is one on J Clyde Morris called Resurrection Lutheran School. My daughter went to this one for a year till k. There is a good one in Yorktown off of Victory and Big Bethal called Bethal Baptist Church Preschool, I think. Hope this helps!

Hey S.,
I had this problem about 2 years ago myself. I looked at a million preschools in the area and the one that I found was absolutely the best was Faith Presbyterian Preschool, it is on Harpersville Road in Newport News. My daughter has been going there now for 2 years and they have classes for ages 2-4.
Ages
2- go to school on Tuesdays and Thursday
3- go to school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
4- go to school five days a week

The school is only open from 9:30AM-12:30PM

You may wanna check it out, I wanted to her to go to Chestnut Memorial, but being a working parent it was not right for me. I did not feel comfortable sending my child to a school where I HAVE to volunteer for things and if not then you have to pay money!!!! Yeah I just did not like that at all. Just thought this may help you. Check them out....they are WONDERFUL

Hi S.,
my daughter attends Hidenwood Presbyterian Preschool (a ministry of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church on Hiden Boulevard in Newport News right near CNU). It's not too close to some parts of Hampton, but depending on where you are it could be a good fit. I heard about it from a friend and they've been around for 50 years with an EXCELLENT reputation from elementary schools that get their kids! They have a 3-day class for 4-year-olds this year and I think they will next year too (registration materials have not been distributed yet). They are sensitive to faith issues but also do well to teach the basics that help kids transition well to Kindergarten. I'm kind of picky about "Christian values" taught to my kids and therefore like that they do the basics but leave the rest up to me and my husband! Anyway, the website is http://www.hidenwood.com/preschol.htm, and the office staff is great! I just didn't know how many of the other places recommended to you have a 3-day for 4-year-olds. Also, since she's close to the age range, I know they hold some spots for kids who were in a 4s class to be in a 5-day a week 4s class even after they're 5, if the parents don't think they're quite ready for kindergarten. Your daughter's birthday is only a couple months before the cut off, and she's a girl, so the likelihood is that there will be no problem, but my younger daughter is 16-months (b-day Aug 22) so that's something I was glad to know about. Hope this can help in your search! Do you have a home church that meets your family's spiritual needs?

My son went to Chestnut Memorial Preschool for two years. He loved both of his teachers. We found the school on a recommendation and have since recommended it numerous times ourselves. My son started kindergarten and wanted to go back to Chestnut school!

They do ask parents to volunteer. Its usually only once during the first half of the year and once the second half. If your child is in a session that has a lot of students (mornings), you may only need to volunteer once a year. Volunteering consists of helping the children in and out of the cars at the drop off line, helping with a few tasks that the teachers might need for that day such as paper cutting, stapleing, or traceing, picking up the carpet squares after music class and assisting in the snack/lunch room. If you, your spouse or a family member (grandparents) are unable to volunteer you can pay a fee of, I believe $15, which goes towards the school hiring another parent to come in and take your place.
I loved volunteer day. It was a great opportunity to observe my child going about his every day school routine. I got to know his classmates, teachers and administrators
