Any have good recommendations for a local bakery in the Danville/San Ramon/Pleasanton area for birthdays and special occasions? Looking for options other than Safeway/Lucky's/Whole Foods/Costco. Nothing too fancy, like Katrina Roselle. Decent tasting with nice decorations, especially creative kids cakes.

There is a great bakery in downtown Danville, on Hartz Avenue next to Pete's Brass Rail. I don't know the name, but it is great, and run by very nice bakers.

Hi there. You didn't mention Castro Valley, but there is a place called Custom Cakes by D.. It's on Forest Ave and she's wonderful! She'll match napkin designs etc. The cakes are delicious!

Nolan's Bakery in Pleasanton makes delicious cakes. I especially like their Banana Cake with sliced bananas. Their prices are slightly expensive but well worth it. Definitely a cut above grocery store cakes.

Old Towne Bakery in Danville, on Hartz is fabulous. The owner bakes everything herself and she is the hardest working woman I have ever met. She makes extremely tasty cakes and she can make a cake of anything you want. Just take a picture to her.

I like Primrose Bakery in Pleasanton. They have really nice, tasty cakes, cookies, etc... and they do special occasion cakes. Their prices are pretty comparable to Safeway, Lucky's, etc... and it's quality baked goods. I get ALL my specialty (birthday, wedding, anniversary) cakes from them. I can't remember what street they are on, but they are in the downtown area on one of the side streets off of Main. They used to have a store in Castro Valley, but they consolidated to one store in Pleasanton. I hope this helps!!

Noland's in downtown Pleasanton is FANTASTIC. ###-###-#### Call for directions because they are tucked in a strip mall off of main street in the back.

If you are looking for cakes for kids, I think your best bet is Safeway/Costco. Big and reasonable. To be honest, my kids never really like birthday cakes. They didn't like the frosting! How about an ice cream cake from your local ice cream parlor? My youngest doesn't like ice cream either, so I always make a big plate of brownies (stack them and put candles on top, or line candles up the stack), and/or a giant chocolate cookie. I've got a pizza pan and make enough cookie dough to cover the whole pan. Cover the pan in foil before you bake so you can leave it on the pan when you bring it out. Slice like pizza. The kids love it. You can buy cake decorating stuff if you want to write something on it.

Hi. Not sure if you'd go to Livermore or not, but a new place is open/opening in Livermore. It's called Dolce Bakery. If you Google it, you will see some great reviews on Yelp. The owner makes really cute and delicious cupcakes according to the reviewers. She makes mini and regular size cupcakes. They are not inexpensive, but sound like a premium product. I emailed the owner to find out if they are open yet, and personally can't wait to try one!
