When we moved from the Northeast to GA, we used PODS. You have to pack and load everything yourself, but they transport it for you. They drop the container(s) off at your house, you load it, and then they come pick it up. It was about 30% of the cost we were getting on quotes for companies to pack and move our stuff. It was kind of a pain to have to pack everything and load it, but worth the savings.

Their website is www.pods.com - you can get a quote to see how much your move would cost.

Good luck!

Whoever you choose, check them out with the Better Business Bureau and the Georgia Public Service Commission first.

Also know most companies will not insure belongings you pack yourself. Also check the inventory list before and after the move, the driver notes any damage to your property and that is what they will go by for a claim later, make sure it is accurate at loading and unloading.

Also do not sign the damage waiver if they damage something. It is very difficult to prove damage later if you don't write the specific damages on that waiver.

Get quotes for the company to pack you too, you will be surprised how reasonable it can be.

Also get a firm date the movers will be at the new location in writing, a long distance move can mean your belongings will be on the road for 5-10 days.

United Van Lines has a good reputation.

When my husband and I moved from MI to GA, 4 yrs ago, we used North American Van Lines and did not have any problems. However, I would suggest getting several quotes from different companies. Also, if this relocation is being paid for by a company do not let the movers know that because usually they jack the prices up considerably when it is paid for by a company oppose to individuals, which I still don't know how that is legal.

Good luck.
