Hi mommas,

I'm looking for suggestions for my son's 1st birthday. Its in mid-February which tends to be hit or miss as far as the weather goes. Ideally, I'd like to just have it at our local neighborhood park & keep it pretty low key, but since we don't know if it'll be raining or too cold, I'm thinking that we'll need to rent out a rec room or something similar.

Since we live in a townhouse with a tiny side yard, having it at home is not really an option. If anyone has any suggestions for locations, that would be great. We live in Irvine, so somewhere in central OC would be nice.

Thanks in advance :)

We had a 1 year old party for my daughter at My Gym as well. It was great because the staff leads the entire party and they have circle time, songs, bubbles and play time at the end for all the kids to jump around in. It's a great place if there are younger and older kids cuz there are a lot of toddler friendly toys. You will just need to bring some food and cake and decorations (or they can do their standard decorations). They even allow some alcohol if you want to bring a cooler for the adults! We went to the My Gym in Tustin right on Edinger near Jamboree. Really clean and new.

I have to second the My Gym recommendation. We did a combined bday party for my 4 year old and twin 2 year olds. They did awesome!! We went to the one in Huntington Beach. I didn't have to do anything really. They did it all. I just brought some snacks and food and they entertained the kids. So nice!!!

Check with the city. In RSM we can use the beach club banquet hall... just make sure it's free. Then include the rain location on the invitations.

we just had this exact same problem. our son's bday was last week. we have a daughter whose birthday is in june so we always do hers in a park without worry. for our little boy, we had no idea where to do it! we ended up doing his at "my gym" in newport beach right near john wayne airport..and it was GREAT. the only problem was it was a little pricey but they do a lot of the setting up and clean up and they play so well with the kids. it was really great!
the older kids loved it too..

I must suggest Pretend City which is right there in Irvine, near Bake and Research. It wouldn't be very "low key" though. It's the new children's museum. pretendcity.org
