Lint from Washer

I have been having problems with patches of lint adhering to my dark clothes (mostly knits and lycra bicycle clothes) when I take them out of the washer. I have an agitator washer, and use liquid fabric softener through the rinse dispenser. These clothes must be line dried, as they cannot be put in a dryer. Does anyone have any hints to prevent this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the tips. I have found the source of the lint. It is the white terrycloth that is lining some of the newer clothes we just bought. Why someone would think white terry cloth and black lycra makes a good combination is beyond me. I will have to wash them separately. And next time, will not buy clothes with that feature.

I have quite a bit of clothes that have to be line or flat dried too. What I have done to deal with that annoying lint is to throw those line dry clothes into the dryer for 5-10 minutes depending on what it is then pull it out and air dry. It gets that lint off and doesn't affect the integrity of the clothes.

I don't have any solutions to your problem but I noticed in your "A little about me" that you had a son with Trisomy 18. I am sorry for the loss of your son. My niece was born May 30th with Trisomy 18. We are enjoying every day we have her with us.

Not sure exactly how to prevent...

However, perhaps lint is trapped and backing up into the dryer. Try cleaning out the hose in the back of the dryer that vents outside.

Even clothes that can't stand the heat in a dryer can be dried on air fluff with a softener sheet. This helps the lint problem, and also keeps the wrinkles down. Good luck.

Have you tried a microfiber cloth - it will sometimes attract debris from sweat pants and sweat shirts in the washing machine. Can't hurt to try.

Wash separately and don't use fabric softener on spandex - it breaks down the elastic and the fabric wears out more quickly. This goes for all elastics such as swim suits and bras/underwear.
