person a is treating the kids for lice. person b is a relative having a very hard time treating lice in their house. person a is having a get together at their house october 8. the house is very small and my kids will want to be in the little bedroom of the girls who just had lice. they are treating it, but im not sure if they are going to check for 2 weeks. person a most likely will see someone from person bs family in the next 2 weeks. person b may be coming to the getogether.

i have 3 little girls, the youngest is 7 months. i nurse the baby, have long hair, and a big house. i am deathly afraid of getting lice. i just know i wont deal well with it. i understand my daughter could come home any day with lice from a classmate, but this is a choice to go to someone house. the get together is somewhat important.

will the very small, cramped house definately be safe by octover 8? how do i know? would you go?

Go to the pharmacy and get some Tea Tree Oil, add a couple of drops to the shampoo. It goes a long way. Lice don't like it.

BYW go to headlice.org for good and healthy information about getting rid of lice, most of the stuff you are told to buy and told to do is useless and just a waste of money and time.

Head lice like clean hair by the way, they don't like dirty people. They can't stick their eggs on dirty hair....

For the first time in .... well .... ever, we are having a terrible time with lice. My daughter has a little friend - her best friend - who comes home from the weekend with her dad and his new family with head lice, like every third time she goes.

My daughter has gotten it from her more than once, now. My daughter has ridiculously thick hair, so getting all the nits is a nightmare.

What I ended up doing is, everytime she spent the night at the little girl's house, she came home and got a lice treatment just as a preventative. I didn't wait to see if I found one, I just washed it out.

Nix brand is the only one that kills lice and the eggs.

If you don't want to use lice shampoo, use olive oil. Just saturate their hair in olive oil, let them sleep in it, then wash out and go over really well for any nits. They will also have super soft shiny hair :)

When they come in or when friends go home, strip them immediately and wash their clothes and treat their hair. If they or someone else has been in their bed, wash the linens in hot water. Put stuffed animals and pillows in the dryer on high heat for an hour. Get the lice spray and treat carseats and apholstery along with whatever anyone sat on and the mattresses.

That's what I would do.

Embarassing but true. When I was abt 18 I got lice repeatedly 4 almost a year from going to my boyfriends house. They weren't treating the house or using the combs to get the nits (eggs) out so they never truely got rid of it. The nit combs & treating the house is very important. I finally got rid of them by doing a mayo mask on my hair & covering my hair with a shower cap & doing the same on the kids at the other house. And daily use of little comb in an area with no carpet. Maybe offer to help the relative with treatment because another pair of eyes never hurts when checking the kids hair for nits. You can tell a nit bcuz it is like glued to the hair strand. It can b a less uncomfortable situation if you offer a story up of so and so had such a hard time getting rid of lice. blah blah. Also 10-8 is awhile away watch this persons kids see if they are scratching their heads also watch the parents as they sometimes can't get them out of their hear without someones help. Feel free to ask me any q's as sadly I feel like a bit of an expert on this issue. Good luck!!

Use tea tree oil shampoo and day or two before you go (lice prefer clean hair), put long hair up in braids and tell kids not to try on hats, use a brush be too snuggly with others.
There is also a lice repellant spray you can purchase, or google tea tree oil. I can't remember how many drops per how much water but it is essentially the same as lice repellant. Put it in a spray bottle and spray hair and clothes.

The best thing to do is try to prevent it. Don't wash your girl's hair that morning. Lice like clean hair. Use lice repellent spray generously. Also use some hairspray. Put hair into low ponytails or a long braid. Spray again. Spray repellant on clothes, too. Strip when you get home and wash all clothes in hot water.

No where is safe. My kid got it from her cousins who got it from friends. It happens. And if you do ever get it - just deal with it. That's all you can do. It's a pain, but it will go away.

Please don't be afraid of lice. It's really no biggie. Lice see no social boundaries and will love the President's head as much as the down and out soul on the street.

I would go, and if you're really worried put 1.5 ounces (50 ml) of pure tea tree oil in a water sprayer, fill the rest with water and shake, the spray and brush through your little one's hair before you go.

First, lice can't jump or fly. In order to get lice, your head has to have direct contact with the lice, like in the form of wearing someone's hat, or sleeping on their pillow. So, as long as your girls don't use the other one's hair brush, doesn't lay down on/in their bed or use their pillow or put any of the other girls hair things in their hair, they should be fine. You can also purchase lice deterent - I haven't used it but I have seen it at the stores. Also, before you go braid your girls hair and spray with hair spray. They should be fine!

I dont know if this was already said, but... my pediatrician said to french braid and hairspray the heck out of it. It seems to work. We had them here once and it was a nightmare! There is nothing wrong with a bun, tons of hairspray and a cute hat or bandana...lol!

You would have to talk to the family. Since you know the kid had lice, then you should be close enough to talk to them about "so, how's it going?"

You can also use tea tree oil shampoo or for your kids prior, reiterate not to lay on beds/pillows in the other kids' room or share brushes or hair things. If your daughter's hair is long enough, pull it back or braid it. You can ask the lice status before the party.

We had lice in our home. My SD was getting it from her stepsis (something that took all of us a bit to figure out). They shared a room so anytime the stepsis came to visit, they shared the lice. However, though we treated all of us initially, nobody but SD ever had lice after that. It is possible to contain the infestation.

Something DH did for weeks was to lay out an old sheet in the bathroom and have SD stand on it. After they got home, he'd pick through her hair with a lice comb, then take the sheet and any clothes she'd worn that day and wash them immediately on hot. Her hair was ALWAYS braided during that time.

There's no way to know. I would go. But I'm not deathly, or even a little, afraid of lice.

Wash everyone hair in tea tree shampoo before you go, braid the long hair and tell them not to play beauty parlor. I have been using tea tree shampoo in my oldest hair (knock on wood) she has never gotten it and they have had several breakouts during PK. I am also a freak about the little suckers and swear to God im itching now just at the thought. They also do not like rosemary or euciplyiptis (SP?) smells. You can also dirty the hair by adding mouse, and hairsprays...they need clean hair to attach too.
