Anyone know of a good place to get your hair cut in Arlington Heights? I currently go to Mario Tricoci, and while I love it there, I am looking for someplace cheaper. Also, I get my hair colored there, but it is pretty expensive. Any tips on coloring your own hair? What brand do you use and how do you pick the right color? I love my colorist and am scared to try it on my own, but the cost is becoming too much. Thanks!!
I started going to Adam and Eve around the downtown area of AH and have been very please with my cut. I see Marzena and she's awesome. Don't know much about color given I don't color my hair but my haircut is a good $20 less than Forbici Salon where I use to go.
I get my haircut at Armand's Beauty Salon at Central and Arlington Heights Road. Kristen does my cuts and color, and she's great. ###-###-####
I've never colored my own hair, so I can't help with that, but Armand's prices for color seem reasonable to me.

Look in the Yellow Pages and see if you can find someone to come to your home. It doesn't have the ambiance or price of a salon. We've been doing this for years and I LOVE IT. My guy does cut, colors, highlights, me, the kids, etc. It's not glamorous, he works in the kitchen, so my head goes in the kitchen sink or we go upstairs to use the bathtub shower arm with me on my knees, head in the tub. I pay about 1/2 price of a salon, but still get "an expert" do that includes the latest styles.
My mother thought I was nuts. So she came over once to try it out. She's never gone back to the salon either.
You can also try to give your person at Mario your business card with a note on the back. They may appreciate some side work.
Final thought, go to a beauty school. There are several in Arl Hts. We've gone to the one near BG high school. It's not a "professional" cut, however it's very reasonable. And there are "teachers" who have to review all work. They also do highlights, manicures and updos. GREAT "treat" to take a girl for a girls day out with mom. My two daughters LOVE getting fussed over there. They get their hair washed, cut and blown dry for $7! It really is worth checking out. (I think there's another one near Rand and AH Rd, near Burlington Coat Factory, but I've never tried that one.)
Getting someone to come to your home sounds great! I would then recommend asking them what color they use on you, and you can then maintain your roots yourself - it's VERY easy. My hairstylist is a friend who works out of her basement, and she just tells me what to get, and I do my own roots. Then she does the highlights and the occasional all-over color. VERY reasonable way to do it.
Check out if MT has a student program. Students can cut your hair for a fraction of the cost. They are usually already schooled but being trained in MT methods. They s/do coloring also
