I know a young girl that does not want to keep her baby. I've offered to adopt the baby from her, but I'm not sure where to start. If anyone has any advice or you know of an attorney that may be able to help with this, please let me know.

God Bless you all,
M.

M.,

My husband and I have two beautiful adopted children (both almost 2, but three months apart from one another). We also used AICS and would reccomend them as well.

Good luck!

Liz

Are you in Houston? The best advice is to go to Adoption Counseling Services. THe woman that runs it is Charlotte Duncan. She can walk you through the process. We had a private adoption and she helped us tremendously. In Texas you have to have a home study done with a social worker Charlotte sets this up. Also an criminal background check. You will have to show an ability to financially care for the child and it doesn't matter if you are a working mom just be able to show that you can afford to care for the child even with daycare costs, insurance, medical, housing. Texas is very pro adoption. I recommend that you have your birth mom have adoption counseling with Charlotte. It will put to rest all of her questions and yours. The thing that you want to have happen is that when the baby is born, that the birth mom deoesn't get cold feet and decide to keeep the baby. Counseling will help her through the process and Charlootte will be able to see if she is really able to go through with it before you get financillally and emotionally involved. You will need an attorney. The best in Houston Is Ellen Rudy, Charlotte will set you up with her also. IF you have any questions just email me a private note . Good Luck!!

I agree to get connected with the adoption association. We used an attorney in Brazoria county if you need another referral. The counseling is VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE and AFTER the baby is born. This made an amazing positive impact on our family. We have an open adoption and four years later...it is the most loving expereince i have ever been blessed with. Our birthmom and her family are like extended family. Counseling addresses the fears that each side expereinces so that you can focus on the love and the amazing gift adoption is for everyone.
