To avoid things getting mushy, I'd take it apart. But when you're ready, I'd put it all together, put the provolone on top, and put it in the oven. Muffaletta melt. Doesn't that sound delicious?!
Over the weekend, I made a traditional muffaletta sandwich. If you're not familiar with it, it's a round bread stuffed with several kinds of meats (salami, mortadella, ham, etc), and provolone cheese and a mixture of olives, capers, roasted red peppers, most frequently associated with New Orleans cuisine. The olive mixture was homemade. The sandwich was made using a 8 inch thick round bread, so it was pretty large.
There are several wedges left, and although they'd be good as a leftover snack, I'm trying to think of a creative way to re-use it.
My ideas so far are to slice it thinly and make some kind of strata, but I'm wondering what would happen if I cubed it and made it into a savory bread pudding? Take it apart and make croutons from the bread and mix the fillings with pasta? Any creative leftover muffaletta ideas out there?

Hi E.,
wow....you are way out of my depth here but it sounds delicious and if you need a poison tester (a phrase my mother in law always used), I'd be happy to volunteer. I bet it's delicious. :-) S.
I love olives and this sounds truly YUMMY - can I come over and finish it off for you?! :)
I would make sure the sandwich didn't get mushy - eeewwww - so how to do that? "unmake" the sandwich I would guess like you stated, take it apart and use it for different things.
Thanks for the idea of the sandwich! I think I can do this!
I would just eat it as is for leftovers. Muffulettas are awesome!
Can't you just send it to me? OMG that sounds SOOO good and now I'm starving. To really answer your question, I would just eat it as left overs.
Take some leftover baked potatoes, cut up into small pieces and fry them in butter, add the chopped muffaletta minus the bread and you have a delicious hash. Top with a fried egg. Enjoy!
Best,

Muffaletta strata! I think that sounds brilliant. Like something that would win Chopped.
I think you should try it and then update us in SWH so I know if I should try it myself, lol :)
