Hi Ladies,

It has been 6mths since I have stopped nursing my son, however today (out of nowhere) I started leaking milk from one side. This is my third child, and I have never had this happen before. I'm trying to see if any of you out there have experienced this. Is this normal or is this something I should call the DR about? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I didn't stop leaking after my daughter was weaned for almost a year. It wasn't often I leaked, but I did.

It's pretty common. Was there a crying child around when it leaked? Used to happen to me whenever I would hear a baby crying--instant letdown and leakage. As long as it doesn't persist, I wouldn't worry.

Totally normal. I actually got a plugged duct 2 YEARS after I stopped nursing my last child.

If you are sure it's milk then I agree with all the other posters. But if you think it might be an infection then call the doctor. You could have mastitis which can be painful.

Sooo normal. Whenever I hear my son cry or I know that he is hungry, I have a let down feeling. Usually only one or two drops come out, but that's the mothers instinct for ya!

Its normal. I leaked up to close to a year after I stopped breast feeding my daughter. :)

It has been a little over 2 years since I nursed my daughter and I have milk come out sometimes. My Dr. says as long as it is clear and it is ok.

I stopped breastfeeding my son 8 months ago and have been leaking milk since. Im also 5 months pregnant and it has gotten worse. Im pretty sure I could pump a few ounces out a day. I asked my doctor about it and she said hormones, hot showers, or even being around babies can make milk leak for a long time after stopping nursing.

I've heard that women long past their baby days will sometimes leak if they hear one of their grandbabies cry. In fact, I spent some time in East Africa where I met a woman who must have been in her late 50s who was nursing her three-year-old grandson because his mother had another baby and couldn't nurse them both.

It is very normal, esepcially after showers or around the time you get your period. I had leaking until about 7 months post partum with both of my kids. It just takes time.

Is it just drops when you try to hand express it or is it leaking a larger volume onto your bra/shirt? If it's drops when you hand express, that's normal and can last for ages in many women. If it's spontaneously leaking larger amounts, I'd run it by your doctor, just to be sure.
