So I stopped nursing my daughter 10 months ago and dried up pretty quickly, which I was happy about. However the other night my husband and I were doing some adult bedroom activities and I started to leak a little! And I've heard of mom's who leak colostrum for months or even years after they have stopped nursing, but I haven't had any type of leaking and this was pure white milk coming out, not colostrum. A few hours later and the next day I tested to see if I could express milk, and sure enough with little effort at all I could. Also the next day my breasts felt sore like milk was coming in, but it's not consistently feeling like that, just on and off throughout the day. Just wondering if this is normal or not, or if maybe this happens when you get pregnant again or stress or something. My husband and I are not trying to have kids, and even if that might be what's happening it's too soon to start a test (still at least week and a half away from my cycle!) so I'm turning to all of you wise mothers out there to see if this has happened to anyone else. I still leak. Even yesterday. I was leaking a little bit.
i had it for a long time... my little guy is almost 4, i stopped almost 2 yrs ago, and i havent tried but i bet i could still lactate with some effort.
I continued to have milk for at least 5 years after mine stopped nursing.
I had a little milk with very little effort for about 3 years after stopping BFing.
after my 2nd, born in 94, it never went away! (15+ years) LOL! Im nursing now & dont really think I will ever truly "dry up".
My friend can still express milk and her youngest is 4 years old. I'm sure there are people who can still do it. You can always ask the doc if it means something :o)
Are you on birth control pills? Sometimes your prolactin levels are too high which causes lactation when your not preggo--- make sure you don't stimulate them and see if it goes away in a few weeks. If you are concerned, call your doctor.

no worry, i still get leakage and my baby is 17 months old. i leak during se@, i leak when i pick up my baby etc. etc.

If you had completely stopped making milk, and have begun making some, I encourage you to let you dr. know. Lactation while not breastfeeding can be a sign of more serious issue. But it can also take a LONG time for milk to completely dry up. I would only be concerned if you were completely dry for a period of time.
interesting! and sounds like you're in the same area as me. I'm sure this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.., not to mention, could be awesome to be able to pump and donate to babies in need!!!
I had that happen after I had quit nursing when my daughter was one year old and for some time afterwards...but not that long.
I think it would be wise to see your doctor, my midwife has told me that it can be a bad sign if your breasts are leaking when you are not nursing. The fact that your milk dried up and is now suddenly back seems to be a cause for concern to me, only your doctor will be able to say whether this is something to worry about or not. Once a woman breastfeeds past a month, the milk never stops producing, it just limits production to the 'skeleton crew' version it needs so that if ever needed again, it bounces right back. This is why re-lactation is so easy.
You could also go and check with your PCP about getting testing done to make sure your endocrine system is working as it should be.
