My husband has Athlete's foot and I wash all of our whites together. Mostly just socks, bras, and underwear. I use hot water. Is there a chance that I could get Athlete's foot where I don't want it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

NO he doesn't treat it properly. Just buys spray stuff and that is about it. I haven't tried bleach in the wash.

Maybe.

Are you and DH doing anything to treat/cure his athlete's foot?

You might want to occasionally run his socks
through a hot wash cycle with bleach and rinse 2-3 times.

Your bras and underwear do not need as hot or heavy-duty
washing as his socks need.

Has he been to a Podiatrist? ( foot doctor) they can help him with this problem and then you don't have to worry about your laundry.

I don't think so. However, I would make sure to add some bleach.

I wash our whites on hot and use a bit of bleach. I used to have an Asko washer that heated the water to 90 degrees Celsius, that's almost boiling. I think all whites are okay to wash in hot, I also put in grays, tans, Khaki, anything that won't fade or shrink up.

I would research the topic on the web. The Doctors TV show had a segment on Jock Itch, it's basically athletes foot pulled up from the feet by the underwear. When their feet go through the leg openings the athletes foot fungus gets on the underwear and then attaches to the groin area. If they treat the athletes foot they get rid of the jock itch too.

According to Dr. Oz it's not necessary.

I think, even if you wash stuff carefully, he is bound to pass it on. You likely shower in the same bathroom he does, and if he ever walks around the house without his shoes on, he could pass it on. Also, probably less likely, but sleeping in the same bed is probably a way to share it.

Unfortunately, we have the same problem around here--and now I have it! I actually try to treat it, unlike my husband. Good luck.

My son had athlete's foot and I was all our whites in hot water and clorox. I have never gotten athlete's foot.
