Last Few Pounds....ugh

Hello Everyone,
I know this is a very common question amongst mothers so here it goes.....I have become very frusturated as I just can't seem to lose these last 10-15 pounds of pregnancy weight. I spent my last 8 weeks of pregnancy on strict bed rest so needless to say my weight gain sky rocketed to 60 pounds. I had a C-section and some other unrelated health issues so wasn't able to excercise for about 3 months after having my daughter (who is now 14 mos). I am only about 10-15 lbs. away from pre-pregnancy weight but I've been stuck here for a couple of months. I excercise, walk, run, and eat healthy. Does any one have any suggestions? I have hit a wall.

Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Hi, Valerie!
Personally, I've used AdvoCare products to get back to my pre-baby size. I've gone from a 14 to an 8 twice. I exercise and eat right and supplement my diet. I've made small exchanges--rather than a bowl of cereal for breakfast I drink a Meal Replacement shake. Rather than coffee or soda, I'll drink Spark (sugar-free!) for a pick-me-up. I take vitamins for core nutrition and my immune system stays strong. If you'd like to see more info, visit www.advocare.com/05102522.

Best wishes! And KEEP EXERCISING!!
J.

My favorite weight loss/management philosophy is based on the book: French Women Don't Get Fat. The sequel book, a French Woman for All Seasons is also excellent as a follow up. It is a joy to read and always helps me lose the last few... or when I start to slip or feel my jeans getting tight, I pull it out of my bedside table.

Hi V.,
Sorry to respond so late. That's great that you're eating healthy, walking and running! Adding just a few high intensity intervals to your workouts can really help to burn fat. Doing sprints, jumping rope, etc. even for 30 seconds 3 or 4 times during your workout can work wonders. Weight training is also good to boost your metabolism.
Good luck - you'll get there!

I would keep a food and activity journal for a few weeks. I think you have extra calories creeping into your diet either through portion size or snacks that you aren't accounting for. While your calorie intake may have been sufficient for you to lose weight at a higher weight, your calorie intake likely needs to be adjusted now that you are at a lower weight. You need at least a couple hundred calorie deficit daily to be losing weight.

Switching up your workout routine might be a relatively simple way to increase your calorie burn.

Hi ,
I went through the same thing . I finally did (a sort of cleanse) and I lost the weight and felt better!!!The one I did was the fat flush plan, you can get the book on eBay for a few dollars or at the book store . IT WORKS, and it is very healthy and you do not feel deprived. You don't give up meat either like some others. Anyways good luck!!! You can email me if you have any questions.

I would add some type of weight training to your routine. It makes such a big difference. Even if it's just hand weights and ankle weights.

I find that when I reach a plateau with weight loss, that means that I need to change up my diet and exercise some. For diet, this typically means cutting back on carbs. I never cut them out completely, but I start eating less "white" starches, such as potatoes and rice, and instead eat sweet potatoes and more veggies. I also up my protein intake with nuts for snacks, and maybe a slice of cheese. In all, I end up eating more fat, but that seems to help me. As for exercise, maybe you should step up the intensity or add more weight training. Hope that helps!

HI,

I am a fitnessinstructor. Those last 10 lbs do like to hang on, but hang in there. I would suggest you get with a personal trainer, and have them evaluate your exercise program and nutrition ( no t diet). You may need a change in routine, or you may be cnsuming hidden calories. Read labels and look for things like high fructose corn syrup. Hidden ingredients in fast food really can frustrate healthy food choices. Also, pat yourself onthe back for all theweight you have lost. Its a body not a machine. P.

Well, you're in a much better situation than me!!! and my daughter is 2. Maybe try upping your calories considering you exercise. You may not be taking in enough. Try it for a week and see what happens. The last ten are always the hardest.

Good Luck!

Are you nursing? I nursed by son until 18 months and could NEVER get rid of it. Come to realize, if you're nursing, you're body won't give it up, it holds that weight as a reserve, kinda of an evolutionary thing, so if food was no longer present you and the baby could still survive. If you're not nursing, I've heard that toning of the mid-section, if you're still carrying that baby pouch is the only thing to help. If you have a bouncy ball (like one of those you get for a buck at Toys R Us or the grocery store in a big bin, put it under your midsection, then do sit ups where you not only go up, but back down past your flat level, they work, they hurt, but they work.

wow, you've done terrific! first celebrate your uber-sleekness with a cookie!
just kidding......
you may have accumulated some toxins in your fatty tissues that are hard to flush away and resisting that last surge of weight loss. a mild fast might help clear everything out. i like the 3/3/3 one....three days of raw food, three days of organic fruit juice (raw is best, and raw milk is okay if you can get it), three days of raw food.
if that's too hard, do 1/1/1. and lots of water. flushes out your system and makes you feel all bright and sparkling.

I have found the key is Water, water, and more water. Also it's quite easy to snack through the day without thinking about the number of extra calories i'm consuming. I started weight watchers a few years ago (before pregnancy) and loved it. Went back on the plan a few months ago when my son was 7 months old, and it has greatly helped overcome the "last couple pounds" since I gave birth. Mind you, my body's shape is forever altered from the pregnancy, but at least I feel trimmer (my face and hands look slender). Weight watchers does cost about $16/month. I do the online version. There are no meetings to attend, it's just you tracking what you eat on the internet in a journal. You don't have to calculate any points yourself, the computer does everything for you. I love this program and suggest it to whoever asks! at least 5 of my friends have joined online weight watchers and they all love it too.
good luck!

are you still breastfeeding?

i know some people say that breastfeeding is the quickest way to lose weight, but that was not the case for me.

I was exercising like mad, and couldn't lose a single lb (like you, i had a last 10 pounds hanging on). I stopped breastfeeding when my son was 15mos. at the time, he was eating regular food and drinking cow milk too - I was just breastfeeding him at bed time. Within 3 weeks of stopping completely, i lost 8 lbs.

all my friends commented on what a good job i did losing the weight, but the truth was i didn't change a thing but that. I think my body was just holding on to the stored fat for baby's needs. When he didn't need it, my body let it go.

Hi, V., You don't say if you are still nursing. If so, you may not be able to lose the weight until you stop; that was my experience. If you are not nursing, you may need some extra help. Many people get great results from Melaleuca products. Melaleuca's vitamins can boost metabolism, naturally, and they have scientifically patented weight loss and weight management products, i.e. a fat conversion bar & bars & shakes with "Crave Blocker"! Good luck! N. B.

I had the same issue too, I was exercising a lot but it was aerobically. I switched to doing circuit training, a cardio weights routine, and got lower than my original weight. Weight training is a great way to burn calories! Also, when I am really active aerobically I have a huge appetite but when it's weights it doesn't happen. Good luck!

Do you take a multi-vitamin? In some cases a multivitamin can help boost your metabolism to help lose those extra pounds.
