Know Anything About Food-hand-and-mouth Disease?

Hey Everyone,

My son was diagnosed with Foot-Hand-and-Mouth disease, I've talked to the ped and done research on the internet about what it is and how to treat it, I'm just curious about duration and true contagiousness - because the other twin DOESN'T have it. Has anyone had a child experience this? If so, what was it like, and how long did it last? Did your other children (if you have any) get sick with it as well?

Thanks!

My daughter had it. It started as a slight fever and then a rash. It was really short lived and nothing to really right home about. My other two may have had it, but again is was barely noticeable.

I believe my daughter had this for a while, and luckily for us, it was short lived. Her symptoms were little pimples on her thumb (the one she sucks) and around her mouth and lips. What I've been told is that some kids get it, it can really be painful on their feet, hands and mouth..so eating could be a problem. We never had an offical diagnoses, but there were kids in her daycare that had it so when I started seeing symptoms, I assumed that was it. I've been told that there isn't an antibotic and it just passes but not forsure. It's passed through saliva and can get re-infected over and over because of the pimples exploding. My daughter had it for a coupld of weeks and it was gone. Good luck...I hope it goes away fast.

It's called the coxsackie virus (Town in NY where it was first diagnosed). My son had it and was lucky to only get the blisters on his feet with just a couple on his hands. He never got any in his mouth. Some get it worse than others. No treatment other than analgesics for pain and fever. It doesn't last long and isn't serious. It comes out in the summer months and usually breaks out in nursery schools.

My little girl had it when she was about 1. She had little blisters on her hands/feet that weren't too bothersome along with a fever. Then she got a few blisters in her mouth which were more troublesome for her. She had it for 5 days or so she was only really sick for 1 or 2 of those days. My niece also got it at the same time - she had a harder time with it and it lasted longer too (a week). Good luck and I hope the other twin doesn't get it too!
