Blisters on My Hands, Don't Know Why

This sounds like the Coxsaxie Virus (Hand, Foot and Mouth) which is a variation of chicken pox. It's really common in young children....but not super serious or anything. My son had it when he was under a year old.

My daughter came home with foot, hand, mouth disease when she was one. My husband and I did not get it ( the dr said we must have already been exposed as children). One of the other moms got it from her daughter though and had to be off work for a week because of the blisters on her feet. My daughter had more blisters on her hands and inside her mouth and throat rather than on her feet. She wouln't eat or drink much. It goes away after it runs it's course. I'd ask a dr of course!

It really sounds like you have Hand, Foot, and Mouth. Its common, and very communicable. It's a common toddler disease. Although it is rare, adults can get it. Both my 2 year old and I had it last year, and I heard its going around now. Get it checked out, and if thats what it is, you don't really treat it, but its good to try not to spread it. Hand, foot mouth disease. Adults rarely get it, but my husband just had it this summer. My son had it last year. It is highly contagious so be careful with your little one. No using the same utensils when you eat, try not to kiss on him/her too much. Practice good hand washing frequently. The sores will go away with time, but tell your doc that you think it is hand, foot mouth disease or ask you pediatrician about it. They may not think to diagnose you with it since you are an adult. Also, to help the sores in your mouth, swish a mix of Maalox and Benadryl. I Tbsp. each. This really helps with the sores in the mouth. Good luck! I hope you have a speedy recovery.

It could be an unrelated contact dermatitis (read allergic reaction to something you've touched), it could be a chemical burn (especially if you make your own soap or have been around lye lately, or have been anywhere with tar), it could be scabies (unlikely unless you're itching like crazy), or it could be related to your cold.

To test and see if it's an allergic reaction, take a benedryl (warning they make most people REALLY sleepy...it's the active ingredient in Tylenol PM/ Motrin PM / etc.). If it clears up with the benedryl it was an allergic reaction to something. If not, it's a burn or symptom to an infection.

Keep your doctors appt.

I know there is an illness that is more common with children called hand, foot and mouth disease, which causes the symptoms you describe. Here's what I just found on Google:

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease may cause all of the following signs and symptoms or just some of them. They include:

* Fever
* Sore throat
* Feeling of being unwell (malaise)
* Painful, red, blister-like lesions on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks
* A red, nonitchy, possibly blistery rash on palms of the hands and soles of the feet, and sometimes the buttocks
* Irritability in infants and toddlers
* Loss of appetite

The usual period from initial infection to the onset of signs and symptoms (incubation period) is three to seven days. A fever is often the first sign of hand-foot-and-mouth disease, followed by a sore throat and sometimes a poor appetite and malaise. One or two days after the fever begins, painful sores may develop in the mouth or throat. A rash on the hands and feet and possibly on the buttocks can follow within one or two days.

When to see a doctor
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is usually a minor illness causing only a few days of fever and relatively mild signs and symptoms. Contact your doctor, however, if mouth sores or a sore throat keep your child from drinking fluids. Contact your doctor also if after a few days, your child's signs and symptoms worsen.

My grand daughter age 1.8 just had three blisters in her mouth and one on her chin - and they were painful. Are yours? It was foot and mouth disease, related to shingles and chickenpox. She got treatment and the symptoms were gone in three days. I wouldn't kiss your baby right now! It is contagious and different people have different levels of antibodies against it as well as different levels of discomfort.

Foot, hand, & mouth disease can be extremely uncomfortable for those who get it. My daughter and husband had it last year. For my daughter, it was like having strep throat and the flu at the same time. For my husband, it affected his hands and feet more, and it was very painful. Definitely do what you can to ensure others aren't exposed. My daughter's friends preschool has an outbreak of it right now and are monitoring the situation. (And the children are not attending while sick.) It may not have long-term health complications, but it is certainly something you want to avoid, if possible.

it could be hand and mouth disease not a cold. your doctor will know and if it is it is nothing to worry about.

-- yes, I have, Jennifer-- I think it may be a mild complication of a cold that is sometimes called ''hand and foot''' --- it's not dangerous ( if it's what I'm thinking of) -- we didn't even ask parents to keep children with it home ( I worked as a special ed, preschool teacher for decades --surely do miss it) -- but for sure ask your doctor-- they got WAY better information than I do --

My first thought is hand, foot and mouth disease. My kids had it. It is a virus and it is contagious so try to keep yourself away from others. Try to boost your immune system with vitamin C and lots of rest :)

I had something similar to this once, I tried the "ignore it and it will go away approach." That was a bad idea. It spread to my fingernails, and they began to peel off... I'm not trying to scare U...Just listen follow Ur Dr's instructions...

I've heard of one and only one situation when I was interviewing for a foster home position. One of the boys in the house had blisters all over his body and I was told I'd have to use massive caution with this child, including gloves each time I would have to touch him. -He had herpes...but had been so abused that it was all over his poor little body. Goodness, I hope thats not what you have.
