Know a Biter

My friend has a 3 year old biter. A little back ground: there are 3 kids all have same mom and different dad. The older 2 (7&9) were adopted by my friend and she has temp custody of the 3 year old. The 3 year old bited only one of the brothers and no one else, leaving bruises and breaking the skin. Of course she has DCF at her house because of the temp custody. Any idea on how to treat this behavior or correct it? Thanks so much

Well I am not sure if this will be any help but our neighbor had a biter and he would come to play with our son. More than once he bit him, once even on the back of the head! I had to put my foot down about him coming over if this did not stop. So when he tried to bite him the next time he was removed from the house and not allowed over for several days. After removing him from the situation several times he stopped doing it. What I found is that anytime there was something going on in their house, fighting, etc he would start biting. I think it was the stress or something. Maybe some situation in the house is setting him off.

A little vineger goes a long way, just a drop or two if necessary. Another option is to put it on a paper towel and have them bite the paper towel.

I don't think that there's much you can do!!!!! The three year old is just being three!!!!! Now, she can take away all that things that the three year old loves to play with. Try taking all the things that keeps his/her attention. If possible, keep the three year old doing puzzles, counting, and reading!!!! This may redirect some of the biting energy that the kid has, and turn it to fun time. I know that the brother would be much happier. :)

reward chart may be a good thing. all names go up on a reward chart and they get stars for being good and get a reward at the end of day or week. a week may be too long for a 3 yr old. but they have to see the reward and realize it's real. rewarding works much better than punishment. because it's just attention seeking is what he's doing.

When my son bit my husband I popped him in the mouth and he has not bit since. My sister did the same thing with my neice (who is now 15) and that was the only time my neice bit. I do timeout's with my son, not spankings but this worked for us.

Soap and I believe there is a biting substance you can purchase to put on there tongue which is very bitter.
