Does anyone have any experience with the one-piece bathing suits for little girls like the ones Old Navy sells? They're not snug or form-fitting like the average one- or two-piece suits. They're loose on the bottom, like shorts, with the seam in the middle. My question is whether your daughter, if potty trained, would wear one of these with or without underwear? Seems uncomfortable looking, but I also don't want to put a swim diaper or anything underneath since my daughter wouldn't need one. And it may be strange to put undies underneath for the pool or beach? What do you think? :) Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Thanks SB, she's three and totally potty trained. There's more coverage with this suit, so I don't have to apply quite so much sunscreen. Just wondering if the seam will rub in awkward areas with nothing else underneath.

Get a bikini bottom and a rash guard top, nearly the same coverage, and FAR easier for potty access! That thing looks like a potty nightmare.
I would have her try it on, and then decide.
It does seem like a pain, though, for going potty. Why get something like this when there are so many cute, easy and modest two piece options available?

Put yourself in her shoes, that's what I'd do.
I have a similar suit for my daughter and I have always had her wear bikini bottoms under. I bought a 2 piece just for the bottoms. Then it was comfy and still water resistant.
I don't know how old your daughter is, but I put mine in 2 piece suits until she got really good at holding it, I didn't want to make her have to hold it even longer taking the suit off.

Just a comment since you mentioned that you would be buying this for more coverage under the sun ... but it's not UV rated. I'd do a UV-rated (they are generally 50 spf) long sleeved rash guard and swim skirt. We've always been very happy with Lands End swimsuits. Very high quality.

I don't think you would need to put anything underneath, but I do think it would be really tough for going to the bathroom.
Personally, I don't think it looks like "light and airy" swimwear. It's so darn hot in the summer and you're essentially putting her in a romper with full coverage. I get the sunscreen thing, but I also think this would be really hot.
My niece HATES girls swim suits. She's a tomboy to the max (4) and I usually buy her floral print swim trunks with a rash guard style shirt. She loves it (too old to be topless with non-family) and it's full coverage while being light!
Even if she's fully potty trained, one piece suits are still such a pain when they need to pee! They are hard to pull down and even harder to pull back up.

It requires more sunscreen on the belly, but has the same coverage for the arms and legs and is so much more convenient.
I have seen kids in that kind of suit at the local pool. They seem to be fine in it, though most of them are still in the potty training/diaper phase and have something underneath. If you want to use a suit like that but want her to have options, then get swim bottoms or a reusable diaper (like from one step ahead). We have some that are very close to swim bottoms and not thick at all, and in a pinch DD will wear them as suit bottoms. We got them when she was potty training and still needed extra protection.
As far as going to the restroom, I would do a shorts and rash guard combo vs a one piece. It's tough to wrestle a one piece back on a wet kid. I've found a bunch of rash guards for my DD either on sale or in thrift stores and many companies now sell shorts + shirts combo sets, too. I don't get why anyone needs to pull down/off a bathing suit to wee. I just pull it to the side and voila! Out it comes!
This doesn't look like a swim suit to me but comments were calling it a swim suit. Since the seam is side to side I don't think it would rub uncomfortably. Also, it looks like it was designed to fit loosely.
