Has anyone used anything for keratosis pilaris that worked well for them? I see lots of products that allege they help - Neutrogena makes one I believe, but it is a small bottle for about $30. So, I wanted some opinions before purchasing. Treatment will be for the arm area.

Thanks!

I second Am-Lactin. You have to use it every day to see results, and the KP comes back quickly if you stop using it, but if I remember to be diligent, it keeps the bumps off my arms. Nothing else has ever worked.

I've read that DREAM CREAM by Lush works. I have some and I like it, but I am not diligent so can't attest to how good it really works. Like the other post, I don't think anything really does much.

I have it and my son does--It does get better with age..but mostly for the areas that get a lot of sun. Which makes sense as to why it gets better in the summer.

This is genetic and is simply a buildup of keratin in the skin, which then does not slough off the way it does for most people. My son's was really bad this winter so the dr gave him a scrip for a 12% ammonium lactate cream. It only cost $9 and lasts forever. I even use it on myself. (shhhhh... don't tell.) We use it twice a day. We also exfoliate with Dove exfoliating body wash. I could use something more coarse, but we have to buy the gentle stuff for my 3 year old and I'm too cheap to buy two bottles. :-) I've also noticed that when I use fragranced lotions, it gets much worse than using something unscented, so we use Gold Bond sensitive skin. And yes, if you stop treatment, it will come back.

My daughter has this on her upper arms. Part of the problem is - which makes it worse, is dry skin, you need something that will be extremely moisturizing. There is a product we read about (good reviews) and she has been using it:

What I find helps best is a good exfoliating brush or sponge and exfoliate every day. I use Neutrogena Acne wash (the orange pump bottle, target makes a cheaper knock off), because I also have some acne on my back and just do my arms and back with a good loofah. I always had it pretty bad, especially in the winter (sunlight and short sleeves will help a bit) but ever since I started the regimen above (every day in the shower) my arms have become super smooth.

This runs in my family and my son and I both have it. I work with kids who can't see and require a sighted guide at times, and it embarassed me so much to have them grab my arm! About a week ago I went to Wal-Mart and found some Aveeno lotion that is supposed to be for eczema therapy. I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try so I bought a tube of it for about $10. I have used it religiously each night for a week and last night my son said, "Mom, your arms are a lot softer!" They are getting better every day so I am going to keep using it. It is really rich but has no fragrance and soaks in within a few minutes. It might be worth a shot.
Good luck!

I had that years ago, I think. I read/heard/whatever (prior to the days of internet, lol) that it was a fungal issue (I didn't know a name, but now that internet holds the answers to just about everything -wink wink- I'm pretty sure that is what it was) and to try anti-dandruff shampoo on it. I bought some Selsun Blue and rubbed it on my arms a few minutes before taking my shower for a week or two. It helped. I don't really notice having it anymore. Before, my upper arms (on the sides, not really the bicep and not really the tricep) were really bumpy. No more.

My daughter seems to have the same thing. She is only 9, so I have been hesitant to try it on her.

There is a lotion called Aqua Glycolic that our dermatologist rec'd for my son, but truthfully, I don't thing anything really "helps" that much. It seems to be seasonal, and has diminished as he has gotten older.
