Just So Nervous :(

Hi Moms - I am having a uterine biopsy done later today and am kind of having a panic attack over it. My gyn said it is recommended for women who have heavy periods with clotting to rule out whether or not there is something serious going on. She said women with type 2 diabetes have a higher chance of endometrial cancer. My mind is racing all over the place and going places I know it shouldn't at this point. How do I calm myself down for it? Anyone gone through this before with the same symptoms? I'm pretty much freaking out right now. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, it's over, thank goodness. Not fun, definitely painful, but it did go pretty fast. Now the long wait (7-10 days) for the results. I don't know why I got myself SO worked up over it, but that's another question for another day! Thanks to all you Moms who took the time to offer words of support - I so appreciate it.

All I can do is offer you this prayer..

God, please calm my nerves right now. I am very anxious about this procedure. I do not know what to expect, but I pray that you give me the courage to face the outcome whatever it might be and to know that everything will be alright. In your name, Amen!

Im not going to lie. My mother had this procedure done, and she said it hurt like hell. She said it was a hard cramp that wouldnt let go until the procedure was over. However, I cant imagine it would be any more painful then labor cramps :) It might not be easy, but youll be okay. The procedure doesnt last long and when its over, its over. My mom said the cramp immediently released once the procedure was over and she felt much better. Make sure to communicate with your doctor your fear and let her know when it hurts. Who knows, maybe it wont hurt so much for you.. my mom is very sensitive to pain. Youll be fine. Women get these types of procedures done everyday. Just thank God that we live in a country where a procedure like this can be done in a safe, clean environment by educated people who know what theyre doing.

Try to think of it this way: knowledge is power and having this test will help produce some facts to get to the bottom of the issue (s) you are having.
And take some deep breaths and say a prayer. Good luck!

I will tell you what I would do, in case it is something you feel you can adopt. I take an icon of Christ and hold on to Him, praying, "Lord have mercy." He is called the Great Physician - whenever our girls are hurt, we cuddle them and bring them in front of an icon of Christ and pray for them, "Lord, you are the Great Physician. L is hurt/scared. Please take away any pain and memory of it. In Christ's name, Amen."

With love and hope,
E.

Depending upon your age? this could be something very benign... women in their late 30s and 40s can experience heavy flows and clots.. it's the whole peri-menopausal thing going on. is it possible you are experiencing this and nothing more severe?

I have had this done about 3 years back and it did hurt!!!
Have to say though that the mirena hurt more than this proceedure did and thats because the one I had was a defect.
Just see if they can give you latex glove filled with warm water and put it on your lower abdomen. It helps with the cramping. Also maybe some motrin to relax your nerves and muscles, You dont want to be tensed up while they do the proceedure. You should be fine and take a deep breath or a nice little walk. Nothing to much to freak out about, you will be fine! Good luck!!!

Hi M., I recently had surgery on my back. I knew my surgeon for 15 minutes or less before he sent me to the hospital through the ER for my surgery. I had already read so much about my doctor, I was really comfortable with him. Before I walked out the door, he said I will take good care of you and all I could say was, I know, I already read all about you. When he explained the procedure to me and asked if I had questions, I didn't have any because I read all about the procedure and really only had comparison questions from what I read to what he was actually going to do. I went to the hospital and had to be processed and 9 hours later, I had surgery without reservations. The doctor even told me in the surgery room I was one of his easiest patients.

I suggest you go online and read about your procedure so you are aware of the things they explain to you. I am not in the medical field, so had I not read about it, I would have been very confused with all the terms.

Magaret,
I have had this done and it was over quickly so don't stress about the pain.
Try to listen to soothing music, even bring your ipod with you to have during the procedure. The music from Chariots of Fire has gotten me through labor, biopsies, etc.
I will be praying for you.
