JFF: When Do You Throw Out Your Undies?

Hello,
I know we all have some worn undies floating around the house. Well I know I do...LOL!! Some girlfriends and I discussed when we knew it was time to get rid of the torn, worn and abused panties. One friend says she throws out all her panties every three months and buys new ones...who does that?!? LOL!! Another said that when her new ones get old she wears them to sleep. Another said she doesn't throw them out until there is more than one hole in it...WOW!!! So my question is when do you throw out the granny panties, holey undies, the period panty or whatever you call them!!!
I throw mine out when I see a hole or the elastic has given out..LOL!!
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

That's too funny. I am on my period right now and was going thru my underwear drawer to find my "period" panties when it hit me. ALL my underwear right now are period panties! Then I started thinking and realized it has been over 6 years since I bought new panties for myself. I bought a whole bunch right before my first child was born and have not bought them since! I guess I, like most other moms, don't buy myself stuff often enough.

Thanks for the chuckle this morning!

If the elastic is done or there are holes or strings... I toss them. I will literally wear them until their on their last legs... I save the bad ones for when I'm on my period, LOL!! I have a really hard time buying things for myself, so I try to make clothes last as long as possible... I still have jeans and t-shirts I've been wearing since high school... I need an upgrade, but it's not going to happen ;)

I don't wear granny panties, and I wore the same underwear when I had my period that I did the rest of the time. I throw panties out when they are so shot that they won't stay up without suspenders.

OMG.. Just last week I was a the grocery store and my waistband was so shot, I was having to clutch my thighs together, because my panties had flopped waist down on my thighs!!!!! I barely made it to the ladies room, before just letting them drop and having to step out and away from them on the cookie aisle.

I came home and threw them in the trash..

I try to throw them out the minute they have a hole in them.. I throw out my husbands underwear for him.. He just cannot throw them out. If I did not purchase them for him, he wouldn't have any..

I am going to Costco today to purchase Halloween Candy and "underpants".. Very glamorous..

Really, I mean what's WRONG with us that we don't replace our underwear often enough?! A weeks worth of new panties is less then a tank of gas for Heaven's sake, and does AMAZING things for our state of mind! Makes me feel so NICE, especially new BRAS and underwear.

And furthermore, why do I have NO problem regularly taking my DAUGHTER (14) out for fabulous new bras and underwear.....when what I'M wearing could get me arrested by the freakin' health department?!

tehehe

I have underwear categories. Yes I know, very strange. I have period panties bedtime panties, jeans only panties, and "other"... I will toss a pair when it rips, gets a hole or the elastic starts to fray, no matter what category they are in. As I am re-reading this to check for spelling errors I am thinking that I have issues :)

oh man...how embarrassing. I wont throw them out. If my husband sees me wearing them with holes along the seams (which seems to happen a lot) he will literally rip them off of me. I remember getting mad at him because he ripped about 5 or 6 pairs in a WEEK! Argh! I only had about 6 more that didn't have holes! He made me go and buy some more. The thing is, since I am plus size, those stupid underwear are expensive. I think at Lane Bryant I was buying 5 for $30! I just can't justify spending that much. I know, I am lame. But, if the holey underwear were still working than why rip them!? Plus, no one is gonna see them. LOL

Holes! LOL

I, too, save the shabby ones for "less than" optimal times.

Now men? I think they keep undies until they just completely disintegrate and morph into a dust bunny!

funny family stories on this one:

my gma is 90 & likes her undies sooooo loose that she pins them on. When she was in the hospital last year, she had a FIT over her new undies - they "touched" her body! LOL....we're still laughing over this one.

& my aunt/uncle travel 3-4 times each year. They take their old undies & just pitch them...so they have room for souvenirs! What we want to know is ....good grief, how many pairs do they own? !!

For myself, I pitch them as soon as they're looking really embarassing!

HAHAHA
Typically? When the material (I only wear all cotton) has worn through to the elastic and the elastic starts to pinch me. Really. I stop wearing "those" panties all the time and save them for "that" time of the month... but when they start to pinch--they go in the trash.

I can't afford to throw them out every 3 months! WHO DOES THAT?!!

LOL - I think I'm going to go buy myself some new underwear this weekend after reading your question and all the responses! Before having my girls I used to love buying new underwear and always had daytime underwear, special nighttime underwear (wink, wink) and of course period underwear! Now I can't even remember the last time I bought new underwear but I think it is definately time to do just that!

Funny question, thanks for making me laugh today! I'll never forget when I was much younger my mom bought me new undies for Christmas. I was so embarrased when I opened the gift because they were definitely granny panties & I blurted out quite loudly, "I pray to God these don't fit!" They looked HUGE but what was so sad was they actually fit!!

I'm well over 40 and I can still hear my mother's voice in my head - do you have on good underwear in case you're in an accident? Really, if I'm in an accident is THAT what I'm going to be worried about? Ugh. I replace my undies when they are worn, torn or just old looking. I don't like them to be stretched out. I would say I buy at least 4-6 pairs per year and then rotate the older ones out as needed. Same for hubby and daughter. I just don't like old looking undies. I've already gotten about 10 new pairs for my daughter for Christmas. She's lost a lot to period accidents this year so it's time. Really, there's no reason why anyone should be going around in torn undies.

I throw mine out every Christmas. My husband got in the habit years ago buying me new bras and underwear every Christmas since I wouldn't do it myself. So every year now I get a nice new supply and since they are from VS who am I to complain!! and he always adds some very nice other gifts too.

When they get holes in the crotch or when they fall off my rear end because the elastic has lost it's elasticity!

Or if my husband says "Honey, why don't you use this coupon I saw at Victoria Secrets and get you some more underwear?" I'm not gonna say no!!

This is probably terrible, but I always seem to get my period when I travel. So if I know I'm going to get my period, I take the old panties with me, use them as period panties, and throw them away in the hotel bathroom trashcan. All of the hotels I've stayed in recently have trash bags in the cans, or at least a liner in the bottom. I don't know who can throw them away after only three months, mine are usually a few years old when I get rid of them. I used to travel a lot and not have a lot of time for laundry, plus I'm always in search of the perfect pair, so I would guess I have well over 60 pair in rotation at any time.

And I always make sure to tip the maid!

I only wear thongs, and I have to say, I still love my maternity ones, they are the most comfortable ones ever! I only wear black ones during the time of the month. I throw out my thongs when they get too tight...aka a combination of strinking in the wash and my getter fatter!

funny I was just thinking about how I should really be getting a few more packages of undies and start wearing them in...I Use to have "period" undies which had to be new ones so that they were tight enough to keep things in place. I prefered worn in undies during the day...Now I do not have to wear undies during my period (TMI) because I use the diva cup so I no longer have specified undies for that.

I have a mixture. Some days I like thongs and some days I am in a granny panny mood.

But the elastic is showing some wear and tear on my selection at the moment so a new round is about due.

I stop wearing them when the elastic is gone and they no longer stay on my butt. A hole or two is no biggie as long as they stay up. cb

Wow...

I feel like the odd one out. I buy new ones when I feel like it and I buy period only, ones for bedtime (bikini) and ones for daytime (thong).

I toss them as soon as they start to show signs of wear.

Most of mine I get from VS where they are 5 for 25.
