J.P.
I use the Hanes brand all cotton "no ride up". I get them a size larger then I need and replace them when they strech out. They come in a six pack for about seven dollars at Target.
Has anyone found bikini panties that truly don't ride up? I loved Soma Intimates' panties but found that the extra edging that holds them from riding up wears out pretty quickly. Within four months, they were done, with elastic breaking through. I read reviews online and tried Gap's panties, but had a wedgie before I reached the bottom of the stairs. Tried Jockey's no ride up panties and had the same problem. I'm hoping for no ride up AND no panty line, but at this point, I'll settle for a panty line if I can just find some that stay put.
I have an hourglass figure -- small waist but big butt and hips, which I think is the problem since most clothes and panties seem designed for Kate Moss figures.
Would love any other brand recommendations! Thanks!
P.S. Definitely not a thong or commando person (I'm 41 and after two kids, neither choice is a pretty image). :) Much prefer real panties.
Tried the Hanes and they're winners! Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I have had the same problem. I love Hanes... they say wedgie free on the package and they've worked well for me!!
Good luck!
I love Victoria's Secret hipster and hiphugger panties. Actually, I like all of theirs, but those are my favorite!! Just a suggestion...any time I've had "ride up" problems, it was always a sizing issue. Is it possible you are getting panties too small or too big?
I know this is sensitive, but make sure you are purchasing the correct size. Many times Panties that ride up are too small. Maybe consider going up a size, see if that helps.
Remember sizes are by the company.. Just because you usually wear a size 4.. maybe you need a size 6 or 8 in some of the brands you usually like..
I agree with Laurie. If you go up a size, it helps a lot. Try to ignore the # ;)
Try Joe Boxer Women's Cotton Spandex Hipster - I buy them at Kmart. They are part boy short, part hipster style with lace edging around the leg and waist. No binding elastic, so no rolling. They are cute and sexy, but super comfortable since the main part is cotton - breathable. And they come in several different colors and prints. White too. And when they are on sale they are 5 for $15.00. Quite durable too! Sizes range from
4-18 I think. S, M, L, XL.
Have you tried Victoria's Secret cotton panties? I've never had a problem with their bikinis or hiphuggers.
I used to wear only Victoria's Secret cotton briefs for that same reason, but then they got cheap on their fabric (too thin). Now, I wear Hanes. I prefer to the hipster briefs. I think they are more comfortable than the bikini because I don't like having elastic along my c-section scar, but I'm sure the bikinis would be just as good if that's what you prefer. Hanes are really good quality (they don't fall apart) and they have some pretty cute syles/designs. I am very easily irritated by uncomfortable panties, and I think these are the most comfortable all-around that I have ever owned. They are also comfortable because they have no tag and the seams don't protrude so much that they dig into my hipbones. I usually buy them at Target.
My favorite are the Hanes Women's 100% Cotton Bikini Panties with ComfortSoft® Waistband http://www.hanes.com/clothing/bikinis/hanes-womens-100%25...
Buy for your hips not your waist and see if that helps. You might be buying the wrong size.
The Hanes bikinis that say "no ride up". Never have a problem with them.
I like 'boy cut' underwear. They still sit low on your hips like bikinis, but are actually little shorts that can't make their way up to wedgie land!
:)
I actually like boy boxer briefs.
When we moved, I found a package that had never been opened and my son had grown out of them. I tried them on and they fit. I love them. No panty lines and they don't ride up at all.
I'm pretty sure they make the same style for women, but the boy's fit me just right.
Have you tried Victoria's Secret? I haven't purchased panties there in years, but the last ones I did are still in great shape. They have lots of different styles and sizes.
I hope you find some you like.
I'm pretty happy in my Hanes. Nothing is perfect, but they're holding up a LOT better than the VS panties I got in my trial offer. I'm glad I didn't pay for those. But Hanes, yeah. I'm good with them. Can't truly help you on the no panty line because they do leave a line sometimes. You might need to go microfiber to avoid that. I wear a lot of jeans so it doesn't matter so much.
Try...no panties...you will never have a problem. LOL
Have you tried "boy shorts" / "hipsters" / "cheekies" / "spankies" (all versions of the same thing)? No panty line, similar to bikinis.
I like the Hanes No Ride Up Hipsters
I have the same type of figure as you and find the basic fruit of the loom cotton stretch bikini or just regular cotton bikini in the plastic 3-packs to work great. Not fancy, but functionable. Target has em. They are less than $10 for 3.
I love victoria secret. I get all their cuts and none have ever ridden up on me.
I know you said you are not a "thong person". I hate the feel of anything but a thong. BUT it has to be loose. I always buy a size larger than I am. Gap Body makes great cotton thongs that feel like you are not wearing anything and do not feel tight anywere.
I wear the lacey boy shorts from Target. Never thought I would get my undies from there but they never show panty lines and they stay put.
I hate thongs and regular panties always show lines because of the elastic.
Also, regarding thongs, if I bend over, I don't want anyone seeing me wear a thong. Gross!
Another Hanes bikini fan here. They are very comfortable and the potential wedgie can be corrected when you are getting dressed, just pull the panties down lower on your tush before putting on jeans, and they stay put.
Not really a brand, but boy shorts seem to fit my full bottom best! I do love the $5 ones at target best though.
Warners No Wedgies, No worries Hipsters is all I wear now! I used to always buy them at Kohls..they sell them there...but I saw them at Sams Club in 3 packs for $11!! Even cheaper than Kohls so I bought 4 packs! I love new panties that are REAL underwear!!

They do have bikinis I believe in the line (No wedgie, no worries dealy).
Two favorite brands:
- Victoria's Secret
- Barely There
I *totally* get the riding up thing. From (painful) personal experience I can tell you that there's nothing quite so uncomfortable as going on a 4-hour trail ride on horse back while wearing the wrong underwear! Ever since I've been a big believer in finding the right fit, the right style and the right size.
Sometimes, the little things mean a lot!
that's why I chose to go commando many years ago! ( sorry I know tmi!)
I had the same problem and got tired of it... even thongs rode a little to much.. so fixed the problem once and for all :)
I have a few pairs of the Soma bikini panties too, and mine have held up okay - but maybe because I usually wear the Soma Amazing Lace thongs instead. I know you say you don't like thongs... do yourself a favor and buy yourself a pair of the Soma ones. So soft and comfortable you won't know you're wearing them. I promise! As Laurie suggested, the Soma panties do run a tiny bit small in my experience. If you are a borderline size, go up one size and see if that doesn't help.
Sorry girl I have worn thongs since I was a teenager, through both pregnacies. I tried to switch to the "granny panties" but I just couldn't do it. I hated the weeks after having the babes where I had to granny it.
I wish you luck finding your perfect panty. :)
That is why I wear thongs!! :) lol
This is why I stuck to thongs even at 41 after three kids :) (But I do make sure they never "show" above waistline or something-haven't worn a short shirt in 5 years..especially with low cut jeans...) My 3 yo son asked me, "Mom, why is your underwear always in your bottom?" I said "That's just the style" but really, that's the style on me even with bikinis-same problem, hourglass figure! Nothing worse than crooked, binding VPLs. Just empathizing...no solution sorry :) I haven't ventured into the new technology of those panty line free things Riley mentioned...those might work? I'm just used to not having two full layers of fabric on my butt at this point and I HATE synthetic fabrics that make me feel like I'm wearing a swimming suit. I'm hoping they upgrade panty technology before I'm 45 :)
I am so happy you asked this question!! I have been on the hunt for a couple years now. I used to get Victoria secret bikinis and they fit me perfectly. I would re-order them every 12 months or so. Then about a year or 2 ago my VS order arrived and the exact same style I ordered previously no longer fits me right. I tried going up a size and they still don't fit right. I even went to a VS store to buy in person. The sales lady laughed at me when I said I needed a large. Her response 'there is no way you're a large!' But I thought I was having a sizing issue although the previous mediums (before I had the fitting issue) fit me perfectly. So I settled for the mediums, but did grab a couple larges just in case. Neither fit right. They ride up like crazy!!
I am so crabby when my undies don't fit me right. :) And I was so disappointed VS changed the way the made the style I used to buy. I bought many VS pairs that don't fit just hoping the ones I bought were made wrong or something. Now I'm stuck with quite a few VS pairs which don't fit right.
So I've been on the hunt ever since. I bought a few Soma's but still don't like them as much as the original VS's.
I will try the Hanes everyone has suggested. My old VS's are getting so worn but I won't part with them until I find a comfortable replacement.
Thanks for your post! Can't wait to try the Hanes myself!
Hi Mama
I agree that uping the size can help - ignore the # and remember you need to fit the largest part of the body. That said, I have noticed with Hanes bikini cut that too big causes riding up too. (We can't win!! ;)
I love the Bali brand undies.. all cuts work on my hourglass shape but the full cut ("granny") ones are truly the best for not riding up :)
I LOVED Victoria's Secret Low-Rise Bikini size small. Apparently they stopped making these and changed the style. :-( Now the bikinis don't fit right and ride up!! I turned to the web in search of undies that won't ride up. Other women with this issue recommended Hanes. I tried 6 different Hanes styles and finally FOUND A WINNER!!
THE BEST - Hanes Ultimate cotton stretch Hipster. Pack of 3. Style 41KSN6, size 5. These have a nice snug fit that doesn't loosen up throughout the day, and they don't ride up!! I even went on a hike around the mountain and never had to pick a wedge. I did it out of habit twice, but to my surprise, the band was still wrapped snugly around my buttocks. :-) Wish they were about 1" lower rise like bikini, but they are still my favs!!!
Runners-up:
Good - Hanes Cotton Bikini. Style PP42WB, size 5. Pack of 6. These have the next closest fit to the V.S. bikinis.
OK - Hanes Ultimate cotton stretch Bikini. Pack of 3. Style 42BYW3, size 5.
OK - Hanes Premium boyfriend cotton Hipsters. Pack of 3. Style CM41AS, size 5.
I've only been buying Jockey underwear, mostly french cut, for probably 20 years. They're great and don't ride up.
