JFF - What Gets Stuck in Your Head?

Updated on January 01, 2013

Specifically, last night I was thinking about asking what old TV catch phrases you all remember. The one that kept going through my head was "Sit, Ubu, sit! Good dog."

Now, as it turns out this morning, that is STUCK in my head, so I'll change it up a bit.

What phrases can you remember (commercials, anything) that are fun....or get stuck in your head? Songs, anything!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Riley, the "After these messages we'll be...RII-ight back" is right up there with me, too. And for some reason, that brings back to me Saturday mornings, watching PeeWee's playhouse and eating vienna sausages from a can. Ahh...the 80s.

There was this one, too, with a claymation dog and fire hydrant, and I can't remember what it was...

Ruby, I still have my It's a Small World record. It has graduated from my plastic Fisher Price record player to my Philco these days, but it's still in my collection. :)

I get random song lyrics stuck in my head all the time. Sometimes it's songs I don't even like - that really sucks.

Hazel, I love it when I get Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, or Edith Piaf stuck in my head!

"Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner, cause that is what I'd truly like to be. Cause if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner, everyone would be in love with me!" (Especially during the Weiner scandle with him and his weiner pictures all over the news!)

Musicals pop in my head, epecially Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and the Beast (I dream songs I sing and wake up with those songs in my head in the middle of the night, including songs in different languages). Whatever I'm currently working on stays in my head too.

When my kids were little, Raffi and Wee Sing Dinosaurs were ALWAYS in my head. I think I learned all of the dinosaurs' names from that...

Well, 2 weeks ago, husband and I went out to dinner to one of our favorite restaurants and I had the shrimp. At 4:00 a.m. I woke up ill... for the next several hours as I was in the bathroom vomiting, I had the commercial for a seafood restaurant (not the place we had eaten) running through my head. It was maddening!
Here's the song: "Iguana's seafooooood.... it's shwimply the beeeest!" With this smarmy sounding "shwimply". UGH. I hated that commercial even before I was sick and had it running through my mind.

"Woof" ;-)

Thanks to my kids' recent exposure to the new "Chipmunks" movies, they are now all constantly walking around the house singing, "You spin me right round baby, right round...." and I can't even sit in my desk chair anymore without my 20 month old coming up and singing it to me while trying to spin my chair around. So that has been stuck in my head for weeks. I've since deleted the "Chipmunks" movies off my iPad ;-)

When my kids were little, my H put a segment of a song on our computer boot up. So it would play every time we turned the computer on.
My 2 yr old stayed with my cousin for a few hours one time and she said she laughed so hard at him. He layed in the floor singing:

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, thats amore!

As sung by Dean Martin. You just sang it didn't you?

Stuck in head: Early Madonna songs. Regularly, and for no reason at all. This is appalling to me, really, as I kinda loathe her music. :( Oh, and that "Moves Like Jagger" song too. Or Music Together stuff. ugh. Wish I could install some awesome "jazz override" and get some good Monk or Miles Davis when this happens. In fact, I'd pay good money for this.

@ Carol--- ha! The Kung Fu Hamster! We had one too, a chump gift for my husband when he was voted poet laureate for our little guerrilla street poetry group. I have since banished said rodent!

That is funny, I say Sit Ubu Sit to my dog all the time. And what really does get stuck in my head, is the song that is playing on the radio, when my alarm goes off in the morning. I sing that song all day long in my head.
