I've been using 1-2-3 Magic's counting technique with my kids with much success for the past 2 years--until the baby started talking. Now, when I start my counting..."One" a high-pitched voice from across the room chimes in..."TWO!!!" And then we all just break out laughing.

What can I do next?

My DD doesn't respond much to time-outs. If I sat her in a chair, she would just sit until I told her to get up. She didn't care. If I put her in her room, she would just chill.... so one day, in an effort to make it more of a punishment, I decided to make her stand in the corner...

so she started licking the wall.

*facepalm.

when our daughter who is now 19 was only about 11 to 12 months old, and was just starting to walk around, (and touch everything), whenever she would reach for something at my Mothers house that she wasn't supposed to touch, I would say no, while shaking my head no, and if she didn't stop touching it, then I would go to her and give her hand a light tap on the back to make my point. This ALWAYS worked with our oldest child, however our oldest would just move on to the next item, and the next item, so it was a very busy time until we went through everything there was to "touch and say no to, but not with THIS child. One day, when I saw her reaching out to grab a hold of a very fragile nick nack on a shelf a Nana's I started to shake my head and say No, and at the same time was rising from my seat, assuming that a light touch on her hand may be needed, but before I could get totally upright she looked right at me started to shake her head no, and say no, all the while she kept touching the item. Then for some extra humor, she actually slapped the back of her own hand, saying No over and over, while she was still touching the thing on the shelf. (this went on for pretty much the next 2 to 3 months, so I had to find a new approach for my child and not wanting her to get into things) I had such a hard time keeping a straight face, it was so adorable!!

My kids were pretty young (probably about 2 and 4) and we were driving in the car. They each had a sucker (or something) and she threw it so we took it and told her she couldn't have it back. She was screaming at the top of her lungs and her father and I were not going to give in and give it back. My son says, "fine, you can have mine! Just stop screaming!"

My tot hasn't given me trouble so far, but I remembered a funny incident my mom had with my younger sister.
Those days, back when they didn't have high-chairs, my mom used to have a hard time getting her to sit and have her meal. One day, my mom got angry, and told her very seriously, "From tomorrow onwards, if you don't sit in one place and eat, am going to have to tie you up to the chair.".
The next day, when mom called out to her to come have her meal, my smartass sister went looking for my skipping rope, brought it over with her to mom. When mom asked what that was for, she replied, "Why, you wanted to tie me up, remember?" She was 3. !!

LO is 18 months old and we've recently started time out, but it's more like time in ... We take him to a separate part of the house and count out loud to 90. It helps him collect himself and by counting out loud, he gets the verbal cues. Anyway .... E other day, I was conducting time out. As I got to 90, he scrambled off my lap, turned around, looked at me and said "ninety" in the sweetest little boy voice. Since he's not very verbal yet, it was funny .... I just said "that's right, ninety". Oh he's entirely too cute for his own good!!
