JFF Am I the Only One Who Can NEVER Answer the Door?

I admit it. When I'm home, I'm not dressed. ESPECIALLY in hotter months, with no AC, I'm in outfits I would NOT wear out. Many times have I hid, ducked and covered if the door bell rings. Just because I'm not dressed. If it's winter, and we have no errands that day, I admit it, I'm still not dressed. Sweats, no make up, doorbell rings: duck and cover. I have a nosy neighbor who PEERS IN if I don't answer the bell, so I wildly pantomime to the kids not to run to the door and look out and wave. And honestly, who WOULD I answer the door for if I WAS dressed? Jehovah's witness? People selling stuff? Mass murderer? I flipping hate it when it's the UPS guy needing a signature early and I have raccoon make up smeared under my eyes. Am I the only one? Are you ladies all dressed like humans with make up on when you're home during the day?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

NAP TIME SIGNS??! WHO KNEW??! I actually had to ask the neighbor not to ring the bell in the afternoon, because the chime really is right by my 2 year old's bedroom door. I'm so getting one of those signs!

I don't care how I look when I answer the door.
I am presentable. Even if I don't have make up on or a full on outfit.

HaHa

Another benefit of living in a college area.

I'm on my front deck right now. In my bathrobe. Like I am every morning.

I can go to the store in my PJs and slippers.

Usually, though... I kick it in my PJs for a few hours. Then I take a shower. Then I get moderately presentable. ME; I'm okay with. 19 hours a day I'm in something that I can be seen in public in (do note the rather low bar for that, though). I put makeup on every day (it's my warpaint for my battles against domesticity). I have curly hair, so that HAS to get dealt with (or dreadlocks ensue). So *I'M* okay to look at.

My HOUSE though????

Dear god. I need a maid.

I'll answer the door with a grin. But please, please, please, let that person NOT be someone who needs to come inside.

I do not like people knocking on my door. It's almost never anything good. To tell you the truth, I find it unsettling. A knock at my door makes me jumpy, nervous, who could it be, what do they want? I guess I've seen too many movies where it's the police or a uniformed officer coming to bring terrible news. I usually answer, but I do it reluctantly after a brief moment of panic, checking to see wo it is and mulling over the idea of not answering. This, of course, makes me feel like a psychotic freak and is impossible to explain to my kids.

I get up, get dressed and do my hair and make-up every day. I even put my shoes on. I homeschool and I have my kids get up, and get all ready before we do school and even on the weekends. I'm always ready to walk out the door unless I'm sick. Having said that... I rarely answer the door!! Maybe for the UPS guy to sign something but otherwise, I ignore the door bell. I don't trust anyone and I don't want to buy anything. Even if I wanted what was being sold at my door, I wouldn't buy it from them. But I think you're totally fine to be comfy at home and ignore doorbells and hide from nosy neighbors! =)

I usually look like a bum when I am home. And I answer the door with the hopes that the more offensive I look the less likely whomever it is, is going to ring the bell/ knock again.

I don't care.. But I only open if I am decent enough, still don't care, if they don't want to see me with messy hear and sweats, clutching a cup of coffe, half asleep and confused, then they should come back later.

My house is all windows... someone would know it if I was home and faking it. Most days, since I work at home, I'm unshowered, no makeup, in my PJs... it's scary. So if someone wants to come to my door and be traumatized for the rest of their lives, that's on them!!

My SO works different shifts, so someone is always sleeping at my house. I have a very nice sign on my door that reads, "SHHHHHHH....please do not knock or ring bell. It's NAPTIME!" I leave it up 24/7 so no one ever rings my bell. Truthfully, it's been so nice having it up. No unwanted/unexpected interruptions.

Oh, and to answer your question, no you're not the only one. There are some days that I'm not "human" at all!

I peek around the main door with the screen door locked.,,,,,,i see who it is and do not feel bad dismissing a solicitor politely.

We have a corner house and ALL my friends know to come to the back, the front door is only for strangers.

No, in fact, I'm sitting here on my couch with my strapless sundress on, no bra or undies, no make up AND my hair is up in this crazy sloppy bun thing. Even if I were looking cute, I wouldn't answer the door either. There is no reason. I have NEVER had friends or family just "stop by". And since I've been with my hubby, his ex is crazy so our house rule of the last 4 years has been NO ONE answers the door after dark. And we don't have our porch light on if we are home. So no way, hubby doesn't even answer it. And my hubby is in sales and gets fedex and ups deliveries at least 4x per week and I dont answer the door for them either! So I am with you...there is no reason whether you look good or not! =)

Haha, for us it seems that the doorbell always rings when I am:
A) elbow-deep in a poopy diaper
B) just getting out of the shower
C) putting the kids down for naps

I rarely answer it. Most of the time it is a delivery. It is also my reminder to go hang my "Shhh, Nap time! Please do not ring or knock sign back up." I only take it down when it is raining so it doesn't tear.

ETA: I didn't buy a nap time sign--just took some yellow contruction paper, a VERY wide marker, and wrote it in giant capital letters. It hangs on a bent paperclip on our door knocker.

For the exact reasons you described, if it is past 9 am on weekend or the occasional weekday (I work full time, so not often home during the week and not ill) I am dressed and ready for the day.
I never really wear make up, so not a deal breaker if neighbor or friend swing by and I don't have it on. Albeit, I am not dressed to perfection, but it'll do - LOL!

I hate answering the door! And usually around our tiny town, it's someone from some church or someone selling something! So...yes, I hide most of the time! Half the time it's because I can see who is at my door and I have a hard time telling someone I'm not interested! And half the time it's because it's one of those days where I'm still in pjs and my hair is a mess!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this!!!

At least once a week I stay in my PJ's (mostly sweats, t-shirts) but I'm a professional crafter and work from home. I need to be comfortable and plus I can get messy and I don't want to ruin any of my good clothes. Since I have to get two boy off to school and a husband off to work most days my personal looks definitely take a backseat until well after they have left and a couple of times I have been embarrassed after the fact that I answered the door in a raccoon eyes, unbrushed hair, still wearing pj's mode. Since then even if I stay in my pj's I do make sure my face is clean and my hair is brushed so that if and only IF I decide to answer the door I'll look halfway presentable. Most of the time though I won't answer it unless it's someone I know and I usually know they are coming....and since I have my studio out back it's easy to ignore everybody else pounding on the door. :-)

That is totally me! To top it off, we have been advised by our town police to make sure people know someone is home. There is no easy way to do that at our house (through an open window is best instead of opening the door).

The reason is we've had quite a few breakins where the thieves knock to see if anyone is home, pose as door to door soliciters. If no one answers they go around the back and usually walk through an unlocked window or door. Luckily I have two dogs, so I don't feel the need to answer the door.

HAHAHA! Me too! I work from home a lot due to my weird working hours, and yes, most of the time I won't answer the door. One day I was actually expecting an overnight package, so I knew I'd have to answer the door and sign for it. The doorbell rings, I answered the door, and it was a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses. *headdesk* Proving that I should just never answer the door! And yes, half the time I am not wearing anything that I'd want to be seen in anyhow!
