I would try Ulman's jewelry in a Fredericksburg ... Great service! Most of my expensive stuff comes from there, including my engagement and wedding rings. They've also repaired antique jewelry for me.
I have a raised setting on my engagement ring. For the second time in the almost 10 years I've owned it. The entire setting has broken off my ring. The first time it broke in the bathroom and I found it easily. Yesterday, after searching the house, I found it in my diaper bag between the spare pants I keep at the bottom of the bag. Besides the sentimental value, it is not a cheap ring. So now I'm looking for someone that could reattach the setting to my ring, this time forever. Or someone willing to tell me that it's not a good idea to reattach it and we should possibly look to put the diamond in another ring. I'm willing to drive anywhere in Northern VA, DC or MD for a quality jeweler.

Salona Jewellers in McLean (Virginia) is terrific! Steve (the owner) and his staff are very pleasant and are willing to take their time with you. I'm certain that you will get an honest opinion as to the "repair or replace" question. I moved away from McLean years ago and still drive to them when I need anything jewelry related.
Good luck!
Hey.
This is out of your way, but option to consider.
My stone came out of my engagement/wedding ring. I had 2 prongs broken off I never new. I ended up going to Ultra Diamond at Potomac Mills and was very happy. They fixed it for a reasonable price and with that service if I lose my diamond for any reason they replace it. That's how strong they feel the setting is going to be. Something to consider.
Good luck.
Reston - Burke Jewelers at North Point shopping center -###-###-####. They have been taking care of my jewelry for 17 years....quality at reasonable prices.
They are off Reston Parkway (come up Fairfax County Parkway, make a right on to Lake Newport Road, shopping center is on the left about 1 mile up. If you hit Reston Pkwy, you've gone too far...)
There are several jewelers in the Dulles Town Center...not just "shaw's" or "zales" but mom & pop jewelers...
