I have one, and my understanding is that I don't need to find the strings. ONLY the Dr should be messing with them at all.
Don't be afraid to call your Dr, you are not the worst patient she has- I promise!!!
Why are you afraid to call the doctor? The doctor is there to help you. Make a check up and go to the doctor. You want to make sure the device is in there correctly and that you do not have any complications. Not to be mean but do you want to wind up pregnant because the device was not in there right? All these issues are under your control.
I got one put in about 8 months ago and I was told that I should check for the strings after any periods(if you still get them) and every couple of months. The strings become soft after a couple of weeks and tend to curl up, so it can be had to find them. They are only about an inch long or so, it may be easier to feel them if you are sitting on the toilet or standing up with one leg up on something. They are at the very top of your vagina, you really can't be shy about it, I have even had my husband feel them for me when I just can't seem to find them. It is rare for it to move but you should check just to make sure. Once you can feel them don't pull or really move them too much, but the doc won't think anything of it if you call and say you can't find them. They get it all the time, after all thats why they are here, to help.
Please call your Doctor! As in most cases of missing strings you could be fine, but there's always a chance that it's not. My sister had the same problem and thought it was no big deal because everyone she asked about it said not to worry and when she finally did go to her Doctor it was in the wrong place and stuck! She had to have surgery to remove it. Please, please call your Doctor just to be on the safe side.
I can't find my strings either-- but my dr. has no trouble. Don't ever be afraid to call your doctor-- they get paid a lot of money to be there for you!!!!
My doctor couldn't find my string when I went in after a year so he sent me for an ultrasound just to make sure it's still in place. It was still there. I'm just not looking forward to them trying to find it to remove it! I would go in to see the doctor for a check up and mention you couldn't find it.
Hi K., I found that I had some difficulty a couple of times, too. Like you, I was scared! But lo and behold, I found them again. Sounds goofy. But they were there the entire time!
I had that problem. The doctor even sent me for an ultrasound. The strings just seem to have a habit of creeping up. I was told not worry about it and have not had a problem in two years since that happened. Good Luck!
Hi, K.:
Call the Doctor's office and talk to the nurse.
Good luck. D.
Call your doctor!! You're not going to be "yelled at" but only your doctor can help you with this situation.
To check for my strings, I'd lie down on my bed (like missionary style) and reach to feel for them. They feel like little fishing wires, and I could just feel the tips I guess. Good luck, otherwise get to the doc!
Hi K.,
I have Mirena, and I don't look for the strings. I let my dr. do it at the checkup. She's found them fine every time. Don't be afraid to call the dr. Call right away to schedule an appt. and tell the receptionist that is why you want an appt. Skipping our ob/gyn health appt's is never a good idea. They will understand. You're not the first one in this situation. Take care of yourself.
