Absolutely not...that's just sweet and considerate:) If I were doing the work, I would appreciate the food and drink.
We are getting quite a bit of landscaping done on our yard. The company we hired is doing a fantastic job -- great quality, whole team working hard all day, etc... I was thinking of baking some cookies or something for the guys. Is this weird or corny? (I've brought them pitchers of ice water every day, but that is just a necessity!)
Just about finished making some cookies (soft shortbread w/chocolate sandwiched between). Hope they like it! Thanks everyone!!

I have had people come and help me move or work on the yard or something and anything to eat to workers (especially men) is good to them. Whether it be baked goods, water, lemonade, a nice cold beer, sandwiches or whatever. What is the worst they are gonna do not take it? To me it is a way of saying thank you.
Not corny at all--very sweet and thoughtful! Although I might suggest doing some other kind of food or lunch besides baked goods. My husband always talks about how when he played soccer in high school and college, the female "team managers" (the groupies pretty much haha) would always bake them brownies and that is the last thing they'd want to eat right after getting so hot and sweaty and exhausted. Maybe order them a pizza or a little mexican catering or something?
I think you're cute. :) Lemonade and cookies are sweet things to provide. I also am the nerd that had a bbq to get to know the neighbors once we moved in, provide a meal for neighbors who are moving out, and I always bake a homemade cheesecake if someone moves in by us. I think the "art" of being thoughtful and giving is slipping away from general society, but even if people don't do things like that anymore, they sure do appreciate it! :)
No way, I think they'd really appreciate it! I had 2 Verizon guys here for 6 hours one time, I made them lunch, LOL!! The guys who took a tree down in our friends yard ended up staying for a beer afterwards. They're normal people, like you and I... and I looove feeding people!! :)
I was raised that this is what is right. I have always done things like this for people who do work. I keep water bottles in the fridge when I know someone is coming for a service call for utilities, but if someone is doing a remodle or lanscape or extensive work on something they may do for me frequently but this is a bigger task I have something for them. Once I was preggers and the guy who typically mowed our lawn, I am pretty sure he was homeless and I could HEAR his stomache growling -- I ordered a Pizza for "us" I had two slices of a LARGE and a small salad and sent him off with a regular salad and the rest of the pizza. Had I not been preggers I would have gone to subway or something like that and gotten him some good sandwiches and hit as many food groups as possible. So, yeah for people who are doing that kind of work I would for sure bake them a little something or make some easy sandwiches or something. They may think it cheesy at first but their bellies wont!
It is amazing how the little things show your appriciation so much more than anything else. I know when I worked outside I could not thank those who offered me something enough. I also find people who are appriciated do a better job than those who are expected to do just what they are doing and not appriciated.
Do It, see what happens.
Even if it is it's a nice gesture. Go for it! :)
I think it's nice. We have workers coming into our home a lot too (air conditioning/plumbing...) it's an old rental.. and they always like it when I offer them fresh fruit too b/c it's nice and cool too.
Cookies are nice- maybe some homemade sweet tea too.
I usually give our contractors beer at the end of their project.
Thoughtful of you- =D
Thoughtful! Make sure to include a well-written "thank you" so that the supervisor gets the message too... and they can post it on their website or in their office as a "testimonial"!
Baked goods &/or chocolate are NEVER corny.
As a kid I live on the 'Canyon Preserve' in California for awhile (construction is a constant on the 'preserves' in socal). You know where I made the BIGGEST killing with my girlscout cookies? The construction site. My BFF and I had a routine in the summer:
- Girlscout cookies and cooler full of soda brought down and sold in the morning.
- Cooler full of brownies and beer at 6pm.
Screw lemonade stands. We made BANK. Although our dad's got irritated with us for their beer supply constantly running out.
That's Very Thoughtful and I bet they would Love it :-) DO IT !!!
Nice! My nephew owns a successful hardscaping/landscaping company and his guys would LOVE it!
I don't think it's corny at all and I've even purchased pizzas for workers that are doing a fantastic job at our house :) It's nice to show appreciation!
I gave the guys that put in our A/C unit a jar of pickles each . I'd just finished a batch of pickles and had plenty.
I don't think so! I think it's a wonderful gesture.
Just one thought. It would be hard to keep them from melting, though...if they have a longer drive home, or are off to another job. Maybe, you could make something that won't melt easily?? Oh, unless they will be eating it at the time you give them. Then, it wouldn't matter!
I think it's sweet :0)
Not corny!! That just insures that they are happily working hard for you!!! And they'll keep coming back day after day!! Good insurance!!! An old neighbor of mine used to put out an ice cooler, full of whatever drinks she bought that day, the next day it was full of popsickles, etc. They loved it!
It is very thoughtful. When we were having work done on our house (both inside and out) we bought the guys pizza for lunch one day, subs another, and always had soda and water on hand. It is not something you need to do, but it is a thoughtful thing to do. :) Cheers to your thoughtfulness!
I think it's nice of you to do.
However, I would not make a habit of it. We had some plumber's work in my house.. I am pretty sure they went extra slow making something that I now know should have taken a couple days take a couple weeks because my sis in law bought them lunch every day.
.
I don't think it is corny at all. A very thoughtful gesture and will get the best work too. You always want to do a good job (hopefully) but you really push yourself when you feel appreciated. When I was little we would give the garbage men lemonade or water and sometimes my mom would have a buttermilk cake to give slices too. they appreciated it and they worked hard. This was when we did not hav teh automated trucks that you hook the wheeled can to, we had metal barrels that had to be rolled and lifted by 2 guys. Talk about working hard!
Not corny at all. Very thoughtful and I'm sure something they will be talking about and remembering for a long time!
Not corny at all. I used to set out fresh fruit for our mexican gardners. Our land lord hired them to keep up his rental property. I always felt a little strange when they were there because illegal workers work so hard for so little. I wanted to do something that showed my servanthood, I didn't like feeling like I had "staff". Same with movers. We always buy their lunch. FYI, not at all uncommon to buy lunch for construction workers either. Not corney.
I don't think its corny, its thoughtful!!! I am sure that they would LOVE IT!!!
M
I am late in answering, but I would do it!!! It is sweet, and they will appreciate it.
I brought some type of treat every week to the summer school teachers.
Today was lemon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.
They made the last six weeks fly by for our son and really spent time keeping him focused. NOT easy to do!
Yes, give them the cookies!
My DH is in the service industry, and he always loves getting extra little treats from customers.
I think it's a nice gesture, to show someone that you appreciate what they're doing. So many people are quick to complain, but not complement someone.
I think its nice! How bout some muffins for breakfast? Easy to eat and would be a nice surprise!
Nope I think its thoughtful. I would be appericative if I was doing work for someone and they brought me a snack just because.
I think it's a lovely idea.
Yes, do it! And maybe some cans of lemonade to go along with them.
Not wierd at all. It is a wonderful gesture that shows you appreciate the quality work they are doing. We need to get back to doing thing like that instead of just saying well they are getting paid to do good work. Somewhere along the line we lost how to show appreciation for a job well done even if we did pay you to do it.
