I am hoping that someone might have an idea of something I could do for or give to my husband for our 8 year anniversary that is either free or REALLY cheap. We are in a pretty tight place financially right now but I would still like to do something nice for him. Any ideas would be GREATLY appriciated!

What can I do next?

Get a babysitter for the evening!! Give him a "certificate" for a massage--from you. Dress in a "little something" and give him the best massage you can, he will love it. And hopefully you will both enjoy the evening reconnecting and enjoying each other!! Have fun with it! Be creative and spontaneous!!

Hey A.,

Congrats on eight years!!! Hubby and I hit the big 10 this past October and let me tell you. He is the HARDEST person to shop for. I did the photobook idea. I wanted to do one that didn't want me to write a book but one that did let me insert comments and stuff. I had gone to all the major websites and what I ultimately used was a program called Picaboo (http://www.picaboo.com) that has all these great page templates and backgrounds and whatnot, and you assemble the book and then upload it to them and within like 5 days I had the book. It cost me about 20 dollars (always do a google search before buying online for discount codes, I found one for free shipping and a % off becucase it was my first order by looking around first!) and I will say that he loved it! He actually shows it to everybody that comes over.

I think all the ideas are good. Just a couple of add-ons: if you do some pix, you could go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby & buy a 4X6 wood frame for $1 & another $1 for paint or you could use markers too (some of them bleed, but I don't think it would matter if you used it for all one color). You don't have to go all fancy - since it IS a man! And a free babysitter (at someone else's house perhaps) - would be HEAVEN for us. Dinner & a "movie" at home ; ) Congrats!

Hi A.,
I hope this is not too late....if so you may want to do this next year. I came across this article featured in the ASU Magazine and thought about doing this with my husband. ASU Tempe Campus has a Planetarium as part of the School of Earth and Space Exploration. They open it to the public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In good weather, outdoor stargazing through telescopes at the campus follows the show. Shows are 30-50 minutes long. Check it out...sounds pretty romantic to me.

You could create your own storybook with pictures of you and your husband and tell the story of how you met or about your wedding day. I am a consultant for Heritage Makers, an online storybooking company. Our software allows you to design your own storybook using thousands of different papers, embellishments, quotes, text, etc. Once you submit your project, you receive your custom hard bound book within two weeks. I can tell you that it is such an awesome gift to give. The books range from $34.95 to $79.95 depending on the size you want to create, but you will find that the book is priceless once you see it for yourself! In addition, these books can be passed on from generation to generation. My husband and I are actually celebrating our 8th anniversary this year also and I am planning on creating a book all about him and I. If you are interested, please visit my website at www.designastorybook.com or feel free to e-mail me at ____@____.com. Congratulations on your anniversary!

Hi A. -

If you live in Payson, the city hosts a free Saturday night concert in the park. You could bring your entire family and a picnic basket. It starts at 7:00pm every Saturday night. It is sponsored by the Parks & Rec Department. I took my sons last night had we had a great time.

A candle-lit dinner for two after the kids are in bed. A bubble bath with wine and grapes, cheese etc. Or just a picnic on the floor. As far as I'm concerned just the thought that it was remembered and celebrated with two is the best.

Make him a nice dinner. Something that you usually wouldn't fix and he loves. You could even make it candlelight and have a babysitter take the kids for about an hour or two. That always makes it special for a man

Have you considered coupons good for things such as a massage, bubble bath, candlelight dinner, doing one of his chores, car wash, etc?? I gave my hubby coupons once for Valentine's Day and he really liked them and has redeemed one or two so far.

If you have someone (a family member or close friend) who can watch the boys - get a sitter. If they can watch your kiddos at their house, you and your husband could just do a nice candlelight dinner at home and rent a movie - you do not have to go anywhere. If you have to leave your house to get peace and quiet, scope the different city websites for FREE events. I found this on the City of Glendale's website:

Enjoy renditions of marches, ballads and show tunes 8 p.m., Thursday evenings, June 5 through July 24. It’s FREE and the entire family is welcome! The concerts take place in historic downtown Glendale at the Glendale Amphitheater, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket – but please leave pets at home. Sponsored in part by Glendale Civic Pride. For more information, call ###-###-####.
Special Patriotic Theme: 8 p.m., July 3

You could attend a free event and get an ice cream cone (they are pretty cheap) and just have an evening out. If you and your husband are anything like my husband and I (with our 3 year old and 1 year old) all we really need is some time together - ALONE> Good Luck and enjoy.

Maybe surprise him by finding an overnight babysitter and setting up a romantic dinner for two at home? My husband loves it when I do that. Congrats on your anniversary!

I just wanted to warn you about the whipped cream bikini. Not a good idea. Any sort of sugar in your genital area will cause you to get a raging yeast infection! I do however recommend the KY mine and yours lubricants. My husband loves it and I have to say it is pretty good for me too. Have fun!

Put the boys to bed, make a scrumptious late-night dinner for 2 (make the dinner something very sensual:)- and wear something sexy. Give eachother fully body massages. You can use whatever you have already, or buy or make some yummy massage oil.

Is he a romantic - write him a love poem.

Really the possibilities are endless - even on a budget...and those are usually the BEST times because it comes from the heart:)

Good luck and have fun!

i started a journal for one year - and gave it to him on the following anniversary.. i didn't hold back - for the good or bad.. but it was a chance for him to see a different side of me that sometimes doesn't come out with the chaos of kids, work, extended family stuff... it was about 6 years ago.. he still talks about it... maybe its late for this year - but a date night always seems to do the trick for me..

good luck - stace

Hello A., I hope this isnt too late. I am so terrible about keeping up with my email. In the past for our 1st anniversary I wrote him a poem about our first year of marriage and framed it, easy and cheap, but still nice. I dont know if you have done this already, but have your wedding rings engraved, most jewelers will do it for free or a very small cost. Good luck and have a very happy anniversary.

how about a sexy picture of yourself just for him. I got my sister to take several pictures wearing different outfits. most of the stuff i borrowed because I would never buy stuff like that but i know that men do like cute stuff. i had some taken in the kitchen, in a bubble bath, and on my bed. then i picked out the best and fixed them up a bit on the computer and pritned them out and made him a littel album. that way he can take it out and look at them whenever he wants. nothing too risque just in case anyone ever found them. just stuff that he would think is fun.

One year I got some red construction paper and cut out a ton of little hearts and one big heart. On the big heart I wrote something like, All the reasons I love you, or I love you because, and then one all the little hearts I just wrote all kinds of different reasons I love him. Then I scattered the hearts all over our bed. I think my husband still has the hearts in his dresser.

Your self! Cook his favorite meal. Find a babysitter. Dress in something he likes or in nothing & serve him. You gotta keep the romance. Do what you would have done years ago to get him. You gotta think as he would.

If you wanted to do the story book idea shutterfly.com and photobooks.com I think offer them a bit cheaper. Also, snapfish might do something. Not sure. You could always buy a premade scrapbook at target and just put your own photos in.

I dont know about you guys but, we dont get much time without our kids. I would see if a close friend or family member would watch your children for free and just make a nice dinner and dessert and enjoy each other ALONE!!!!

You could arrange for a family member or friend to watch your boys at their home so you and your husband can have the house to yourselves. Then prepare a special dinner that he loves (or maybe inexpensive takeout) and enjoy a meal by candlelight. My husband has a sweet tooth so he loves it when I surprise him with cookies or lemon bars. (AJ's has some amazing desserts if you're not a baker. The tiramisu is only $4 for a generous piece that could be shared.) You could cuddle up on the couch together to watch a movie and enjoy dessert. It'd be an inexpensive date but still special. Have a happy anniversary! :)
