Is It Worth It? - Arlington,TX

My family and I moved to Arlington about 3 weeks ago and I am currently looking for full time work. However I need to know about the average cost of daycare in the surrounding area so that I can make an educated decision on whether or not it will be possible to work and make enough to pay for daycare plus a little extra. If anyone could please just tell me the average around here I would really appriciate it.

What can I do next?

Anyway, I have lived here for 5 years and still am not used to it. I am from a small town in the middle of nowhere in NC. Good Luck with everything!

Hi T.,

I checked Primrose Breckinridge in Richardson within the last month, and they charge $220/week for a toddler and $260/week for an infant = $480/week for both of them. That's $1920/month for both of them, which ends up costing just over $23,000 a year. I thought that was pretty high, but I've heard great things about the Primrose school if you can afford it.

hi theresa,

i agree with some of the other responces in that unless your job is very $$ making than i would think staying at home with your little ones would be more worth it for you and your family. welcome to the metroplex!

It certainly was not worth it for us. The money we spent on medical bills was extraordinary. My daughter caught so many illnesses in day care. After 10 ear infections, croup and pneumonia we called it quits. (We tried 3 different schools so that was not the problem). I now have a babysitter instead. During the summer when the babysitter was not in school she came 6 hours a day. Now that school is in the sitter can come only for 3 hours a day. But in 9 months of this my daughter has never been ill once. And she has a blast playing and cooking with a teenager. She has other friends that come play and I take her to lots of places where she can play with other children. I work at home so we installed a nice camera system in her room and I can work a lot while she is asleep. That, plus the daily babysitter is great.

Hi T.,
I am the mom of 4. but even at 2 it wasn't worth it for us- not only the cost of day care but the extra for lost wages due to illness etc...
PLUS, my grocery bill has gone down ( I can spend more time doing coupons, meal planning, price matching at Walmart and buying less premade foods)My gas bill is less, my clothing bill is less (again, more time to search out bargains, sift through the thrift store etc).
I do work from home a couple of evenings a week doing pediatric phone triage, plust work 2 Sat AM''s a month in the same office- that is what pays for the kids extras like baseball and afterschool drama.
We have made some choices in our lifestyle- small house, older cars, whatever, but so far it has worked!
Best of luck!
D.

Hi T.,

I was just going through the same delima about a month ago. I went to a smaller daycare right up the street from my house & they were wanting $175/week for my 17 month old. I would have to be making over $12/hour to be able to cover this & still have extra money to spend on my 2 boys. Decided going back to work was not worth it till my youngest one is in school. I also noticed that they only went down in price about $5-$10 every age bracket. I have a friend who has twin 2 1/2 year old boys and she pays $386 every 2 weeks for both of them. She takes them to a daycare by her school but could find out information if you are interested. my personal email is ____@____.com Hope everything goes good for you.

It really is not worth going back to work unless you are making a substantial income. If you are interested in working from home like I do, let me know I would love to show you. Absolutely no obligation of course. Talk to you soon. L.
