Yes, I still get this certain months and I am in my 50's..
Also only on my right side.
But if you feel like something is wrong, I would mention it again that something, just does not seem right.
I have had pain in my right ovary off and on since I had my daughter who is now 8. Last year the doctor told me it was normal for the ovary to swell and cause discomfort occasionally, such as during ovulation or around your menstrual time. I was just wandering if this is true?

Yes, hormonal fluctuations can cause cyclic pains. If yours are so closely aligned with your cycles, that could be it. A lot should rest on how painful these are and whether you have other symptoms that are alarming (bleeding, high degree of pain, others).
However, it's of greater concern to me that you have a doctor you don't trust or can't go back to if you aren't sure of the answer you got. I think you need a physician you can relate to.
Yes, this is normal for many women. It is typically called Mittelschmerz and happens around the time of ovulation. It can be a short sharp pain or last a couple of days and be more of a sore feeling.
Pelvic discomfort is also normal around menstruation.
You can always get a second opinion and an ultrasound to be sure there is nothing amiss...
Someone asked why didn't you believe your doctor.
I see no harm in your question as second opinions and asking other women is the norm.
Sometimes ovulation for me is more uncomfortable than my period.
yes it's true. Every month I get some pretty awful ovulation pain. It's like a sharp stabbing pain on whatever side is ovulating. It was so bad once that I went to my ob dr. and they had to do a pelvic u/s but everything came back normal. Usually if it gets really bad I just take some advil and I'm ok. It last about a day or two at most.
J.,
Welcome to mamapedia!!
I don't have my ovaries anymore...however I personally never had ovulation pain. I know women that do.
Why don't you ask your doctor more questions if you are wondering what's up? If you are having pain...at the same time every month - then you might be feeling the ovulation process....if it's sporadic? I would talk more with my doctor and get further testing done.
Yes. It's called Mittleschmerz and I've known about it since I first started menstruating at 10 years old. I'm surprised you've never heard of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mittelschmerz
That's definitely normal for some women. And hormonal changes -- post-childbirth, perimenopause, etc. -- can trigger this even in women who've never had it before. If you're not having any other symptoms, this all by itself is not a cause for concern.
Why don't you believe your doctor? Have you googled it, or sought a second opinion?
I have that happen nearly every cycle, right around the time of ovulation. It's always on my lower right side, and they are jabbing cramp-type pains. Sometimes pretty severe. My doctor told me the same thing...
yup! i go through this too. believe it or not sometimes sex is uncomfortable during ovulation too. it doesnt necessarily hurt but just not comfortable.
Truthfully? I'd get a second opinion. But that's just me...
Yep. There are natural remedies for it though. I basically use doctors to diagnose whatever it is but if they can't give me ways to fix it other then saying "it's normal" and they aren't trying to help me even after I ask then I fix it myself. My mother in law made me some sort of tincture (can't remember what was in it) that got rid of it. I started getting those pains when I gave birth to my first and after about 5 years they went away. Haven't had the pain in 2 years
