I appreciate this group, too.
But it seems like the moderators are not as quick as they should be since Mike left.
Is it just me or have there been a LOT of off the wall questions and people hear lately. I have been a part of this group for many years and I know there have been many trolls but it just seems like the last few months there have been a large number of them. I just want to say I greatly appreciate this group and the wisdom that is available.
Added. I have only seen one thing taken down but that was something I sent a private message to the moderator because it was bad. She took it right down. But just the once.

yes ever since we lost mike the moderater there has been a noticeably higher amount of off the wall questions.
Honestly, I haven't seen a single thing "moderated" since Mike left. Either it isn't moderated at all, or is done by an outsource service who really aren't doing their jobs.
I think that the only thing a person can do is try not to answer some of the trolls as it seems to give them fodder for yet another posting. Sometimes, though, it is hard to tell the trolls from people who have really unusual problems, or English isn't their first language, or they struggle with the written word.
Guess we will just have to see what happens. Wish Mike was back . . .
It goes in waves, in my experience.
For a long time, we had those posts about "My sister's mother-in-law's second cousin makes $295 an hour from home on the internet." Ages ago, we had a whole bunch for some moving company in India. And yes, the school vacation crowd often weigh in with stupid stuff. One of our members used to search the internet and find the same posts on multiple sites - there was one that circulated a lot about how "everyone at church is so mean to me" and one member used to post those other sites. Very helpful.
I agree with Tadpole that there have been moderators who were very quick to clean things up, either by deleting posts or by at least warning new members with questionable or stupid posts that things would be deleted if they didn't clean up their act. Things are moving much slower now, and it takes days to get a horrible post removed. I'm not sure the new moderator even works on weekends.
We also used to have warnings about medical questions, but those have stopped for some reason.
I have long maintained - and have said so to various moderators - that the first new post from a new member shouldn't be uploaded until the moderator sees it. And the rules of new accounts should say so - letting people know that their post won't go up until it's approved. Hell, that happens on Freecycle, for crying out loud - I couldn't give away any yard equipment or furniture until it was approved. I have no idea why that's not possible, given the technology.
ETA: Apparently all those crazy posts from the one member have disappeared: sociology posts about bullying/flaming, Mamapedia "rules" and more. So there is some moderator activity - it's just really slow.
Yes the questions have gotten very weird.
I reported the post from earlier today. It was just cut and paste from another website. Not sure what the point was.
I do sometimes think sites like this must attract people who have some issues. Maybe when they don't feel they've been heard.
Moderating seems to be a little slack lately ...
The moderator must be part time. He or she doesn't come on here very often. You are right that we've had a spate of them lately, including two that are back to back by the same poster whose picture is of her poll dancing.
Same here I as out of pocket a few days and some of the new posts have me scratching my head.
I have been here YEARS since Mamasource and I've never seen this before.
I will say that I do appreciate this group and all of the people who are here regularly giving good thoughts and advice to others.
Yes, there have been some wacky posts for sure!
Yes, I have had a lot of "this can't be real" moments here lately.
Yes! Their is a lot of nutty people out there.
I haven't seen signs of a moderator in ages.
Hello everyone!
Thank you for all of your feedback and comments. It is all of you in the community through your passion that make Mamapedia such a valuable resource. Please know that we are committed to actively moderating the site. We take all of your input, concerns, and feedback very seriously. We also do our best to ensure the content posted on the site is appropriate and consistent with our mission. As you can imagine, this sometimes comes down to making a judgment call. By no means do we always make the correct decision and sometimes we flat out miss things. We know that we have room to improve in this area and ask for your understanding as we try to do better. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. --- V.
The moderators are good long as they remain neutral. Mike was biased.
