iPhone Cases?

I'm stepping into the 21st century and getting a smartphone. I'm getting the iPhone 4S. What type of protective case would you recommend? (I'm clumsy and drop things a lot, or my darling children will) Screen protector too?

A quick search of cases reveals: Elago, Otterbox, Zagg. I think I'd like something "rubberized" to make it less slippery... Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts -- I went with the Lifeproof. Found it on Amazon for $57 (vs. Best Buy's $80)

I have a life proof case. It's drop proof, and even water proof! And I know it's water proof cause my husband pushed me in the pool one say with it in my hand! And it was all good. Best buy sells them.

Well, my Otterbox has survived several falls from waist height, but it does make my 4s too big to comfortably fit in my pocket. Not sure it would have survived with less protection--I'm happy with my hot pink Otterbox!

Skip all the research and whatnot.

Go to the mall.

Walk until you see the cell phone cover kiosk.

Pick.

They run $20-$40 - same price as the phone store, but with selection, colors, designs, etc. They all work the same, none are more magically protective than the others.

Get the sceen protector. Peeled mine off when we upgraded, and now my iphone 1 is still in excellent condition.

I have Speck. I got it at the AT&T store when I got my phone. Love it.

I have an Otterbox but won't use it because it's too bulky. I like to slip my phone in my pocket.

Enjoy!

I have to disagree w/Dadonpourpose. There is definatly a difference in protective phone cases! What matters, in my opinion, is how rough you are on your phone! My husband has ruined a few, he has an Otterbox. It is a very protective case, but I hate it because it makes the phone huge! Ok, maybe not huge! But bulky! LOL! I on the other hand have a hard rubbery/plastic case from Wal-Mart on mine. I am much more gentle than hubby! Having said that, I do drop mine occasionally and I carry it around in my back pocket most of the time. I would highly recommend the screen protector. They are not very expensive, esp. when you see how long they last! I prefer the more expensive kind that is cut to fit the iphone. They fit better. You can purchase DIY, cut to fit your phone. I don't think they last as long b/c they don't fit as well. I only change mine maybe once every 6-8 months. When it starts to look pretty worn (As in less shiny!) Welcome to the 21st century! Your going to love iphone!

Otterbox all the way!

People have dropped them off buildings, run over them w/their cars and still walked away w/working phones.

Because of the expense, I opted out of the insurance, but opted for the Otterbox as I have a toddler and can be hard on my things. It's been awesome so far and I definitely recommend it. They can be pricey, so check out ebay and amazon first.

Welcome to the fun - I love my iPhone!

I know I'm a few days late on this, but I agree with Mandy B. lifeproof case here for me. When the 18 mos old toddler throws it to the ground and the phone remains unscathed, I consider buying stock! We're even holding out for the lifeproof iPad 3 case and the toddler isn't allowed to touch the iPad until it's in one. It's. It a cheap case, but you definitely get what you pay for.
