My family is getting an Ipad for Christmas and I want to have it ready with some apps for Christmas. I am looking for some suggestions on specific apps for each of my children. Here is a little about them.
3 yr. old boy, Kash, (he will have limited time on the Ipad but I do want him to have some apps)- knows colors, uppercase letters, basic shapes, numbers 1-10 and good language skills- looking for apps that address problem solving or reasoning skills such as matching, sorting, mazes, opposites, lower case letters, phoneme awareness such as sounds in words or rhyming, letter sounds, basic words, writing or tracing
18 month twin boys born prematurely
Kasen- developing normally except for mild language delay- looking for apps that build language and vocabulary, also developmentally appropriate cognitive tasks
Kage- suffered brain injury in utero which resulted in cerebral palsy and overall cognitive ability, still working on sounds but does wave bye and signs "more," he is able to tap on our speech therapist's I-phone- looking for developmentally appropriate apps for cognitive skills and basic language or communication
Just in case my husband and I every find a spare minute, we could also use some suggestions for cool adult apps.
Look for the lite versions. They're basically free samples so you can try the app out before paying the full price. My 18 month old likes lil snowman (I think the voice is kinda creepy) & toddler touch and see. My 4 year old gets frustrated by the driving games but likes angry birds, slingshot cowboy, mr. space lite and tozzle. Oh, and he LOVES talking Carl. Duckduck is calming. Highlites has a hidden pictures app that seems okay but I haven't used it much. I like the first words apps too - my son liked it when he was 3. Sometimes he likes to play with the googlemaps app.
I'm sure there are tons more. I haven't really looked for any in a long time and these are just on my iPhone. I think there are more that are iPad specific.
Have fun!

We love www.kneebouncers.com and I've noticed they have some apps available now.
I swear this site taught my 2-year-old (a Kasen, too!) all of his letters/colors/shapes. And my 4-month-old is enthralled by it, though she can't play yet.

My 2 yr old loves making cupcakes. Also my kids love the talking animals.
Not educational but they keep them entertained. My 2 yr old also loves an app that had a bunch of animals and it says their name.

There is an Elmo one my daughter loves where you can dress up a monster and pick it's face and clothes. Dora skywriter if they like Dora and can somewhat draw. There's a chugginton roundhouse one she likes. Both easy bake cupcake and cookie doodle let you make batter and bake and decorate cupcakes and cookies. One is called cars match that is a knockoff of the cars movie where you match cars up (like memory).
